Pentagon reportedly buried study exposing $125 billion in waste

"Senior defense officials suppressed a study documenting $125 billion worth of administrative waste at the Pentagon out of fears that Congress would use its findings to cut the defense budget, the Washington Post reported late Monday.

The report, which was issued in January 2015 by the advisory Defense Business Board (DBB), called for a series of reforms that would have saved the department $125 billion over the next five years.

Among its other findings, the report showed that the Defense Department was paying just over 1 million contractors, civilian employees and uniformed personnel to fill back-office jobs. That number nearly matches the amount of active duty troops — 1.3 million, the lowest since 1940."

I'm a little tired of only knowing "Senior DoD Officials" are to blame. Name their names. Call them out and then throw them out. On top of that, revoke their security clearance and bar them from civil service or presidential appoint ment in the federal government.
Do that to a few (or a lot) and the practice of hiding info will stop.

"Somebody else's money." Yes, there should be some accountability. Heads should roll! It is not just the DoD; every dept. is bloated... Most shouldn't exist. Even down to the local level, how many stories have we all heard about compliant public employees having to spend the leftover budget, or face a cut the following year. I have heard many stories, over many decades, from bureaucrat friends, telling me how their offices must have last year's renovation done again this year in order to spend the money! I recently spoke with an irate Town Clerk that must keep her mouth shut in order to keep her job. She can't believe the waste of taxpayer dollars and right now she is not happy about the extra work-load due to the recount. The County buildings here are all marble palaces with top notch furnishing, yet they never have enough taxes. We are merely vassals.

As an Air Force officer, I worked on classified space programs, and during the years I oversaw development projects, I had to actively and aggressively attack wasteful efforts. Contractors, government civilians, and senior officers all seemed to have an agenda they regarded as more important than careful budgeting of taxpayer dollars.

After I retired, I went to work in Washington DC as a defense contractor. I tried to fight against a system that was a glorified body shop, with senior government officials eager to grow their herd of minions as a sign of their own importance. I was definitely glad to leave that place when I retired.

Oklahoma Senator James Lankford has taken up the banner from his predecessor, Tom Coburn, producing an annual waste book outlining duplication, wasteful spending, and seriously inefficient practices in all Federal agencies, not just the Pentagon. You can get a copy if you go to his website.

I'd be willing to bet that no one was surprised at this. Government waste is legendary. Why should the Pentagon be any different? Yes, by all means find out who the scoundrels are and get them out. But why stop at the Pentagon? Let's get after all the wasters.

Exactly mminnick, who are these senior officials. First thing is fire them and clawback their cozy pensions. Next would be to explore criminal fraud or Rico charges as it is more damaging financially than all the bank robbery's in the history of the world combined.

    Overspend and cover it up.
Par for the Pentagon course over the years..
It's a bit fuzzy but old dino recalls long ago this particular outfit having a bunch of boobs who got caught spending $500 for a hammer or something along those lines.

Many years ago I worked for a defense contractor (who shall remain nameless) the was accused of making $500. hammers and other such hand tools needed to support a weapon system. It urnes out that they wanted to buy the tools kits from Sears and get all Craftsman tools. Net cost for the entire tool kit was about 400. When the contracting officer found out he quoted contract verbiage he interpreted as the Defense Contractor would make the tools. He stuck by his original statement and so the contractor had to build the tools themselves. In order to do this, machine tools had to be bought, tool and die makes hired etc., etc., etc.. When you spread the cots of all of the equipment over the number of items make, it turned out the average tool in the tool box cost about $350 (10 tools per box). and the tool box itself cost about $100.
I'm not saying that some defense contractors or even most don't gouge a bit at time, but sometimes it is the stupidity of the government that forces the costs up.

In his speeches and debates,Trump has talked about government officials who make stupid deals.
I suppose the stupid mindset is that they are spending some kinda magical unicorn "government money" as if the revenue was not paid by taxpayers.
Paid? Well, that word works concisely well in the above sentence for the idea I'm trying to express.
"Shaken down" or "extorted from" is what "paid" means when April 15 comes around.

nearly ALL government spending is WASTE, so why would they care about a few billion. Probably went to government salaries anyway, which IS the real purpose of government today

While I agree with the conclusions stated here, one might as well go to a college campus and stump for an end to liberal groupthink.
We have generations of people who have been schooled by the left, on campuses and in the media. Unlearning all the false premises and narratives will take considerable time, even by those willing to consider reality.
