The fake news fake story

The Washington Post article on fake news is dissected in this article.
1. Facebook and others are considering ways to
Halt the spread of "fake news". I call it censorship.
2. Post asserted that Russians planted fake news to influence the election in Trumps favor.
Including stories on her health. We all saw her stumbling and being carried into her SUV. Post wants us not to believe our lying eyes or our "fake vision".
3. Ron Paul's web site was a vessel for Russian propaganda?
4. Obama states HRC lost because FOX News
Is on all the TV in bars and pubs and restaurants
Across middle America. I say that's how a free market works you f---ing idiot, owners cater to customers.
5. Where there is smoke there is fire. People have been migrating to alternative news organizations mostly due to biased reporting
by more traditional news.
6.The gorgon hag in leaked emails was instructing the media during the campaign.
Her news minions feed her debate questions.
I say" fake debate monitors"!

Until the rise of social media, the "mainstream" media was behaving much the same way and getting away with it. Now they're being called out whenever they try to mislead the public.

And if the "mainstream" social media try to censor alternative points of view, I expect that alternative social media will quickly rise to challenge the suppressors.

Bingo! This astute observation is a basis for just what the problem is. The "mainstream media" has tried to spread it's tentacles out and twine with politicos on both sides, and exert "influence". That is not in their mandate. They are supposed to report facts. Randolph Hearst introduced the "Yellow Journalism" at the turn of the last century, and it has always been there. Only now, with so many alternate sources of information and data (videos, pictures, recordings) is the model challanged and the stories vetted. They relied on the "trust" factor to cover it all up. Walter Cronkite was "trusted" in the 60's-80's as the mainstream news "Thats the way it is" guy, and was later found to be a raving liberal. How much of his "facts" were indeed fiction? The problem with data of any kind will always be: is it real and unbiased? Thats when you really get in trouble, as Fox is definitely not "Fair and Balanced" and CNN/ABC/NBC/PBS are not even close.

Everybody should be free to say anything. There is redress for slander, etc. Now that social media has changed the way people communicate, people will choose what they want to believe, just as they always have.

Here's the interesting point. I know of no slander suits coming out of the WikiLeaks stuff (even against those who broadcast it in what they are calling "fake news"), no matter how horrible the stories. Why? Well...I think you and I can figure that out...

I think the author makes his points quite well. The media deserves the free market failure they are experiencing.
Note however that the author somehow represents the Council for the National Interest. Well that's a propaganda mouthful isn't it?
The wiki page about them appears to accuse them of be anti-zionist. Is that bad? Is that good?
Wikipedia is becoming almost as bad as the mainstream media.

I think that the last election shows that people are more discerning than they have been in the past. Even those who voted for Hillary admit to media and social media bias and lies. They voted out of blind loyalty to the party.

        The dems with those causes.

One of the problems in our system is the Political Parties. In their loyalty to the party, media and peer pressure, people become one issue voters and ignore the rest of the platform, no matter how detrimental.

George Washington warned us not to allow factions and parties lest they just compete with each other and lose sight of the people.

"...the common and continual mischiefs of the spirit of party are sufficient to make it the interest and duty of a wise people to discourage and restrain it.
It serves always to distract the public councils and enfeeble the public administration. It agitates the community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms, kindles the animosity of one part against another, foments occasionally riot and insurrection. It opens the door to foreign influence and corruption, which finds a facilitated access to the government itself through the channels of party passions. Thus the policy and the will of one country are subjected to the policy and will of another.”

          How Prescient.

Wikipedia was founded based on factual editing by the masses. A great idea, until a determined group start editing all the right topics to suit "their view". I have seen where they really try to police it, and yank their material out and revert topics to previous versions, but they are very outnumbered. Proof that committed controllers of both sides will stop at nothing to push their agenda.

Ron Paul ... Russian Propaganda? ROFLMAO
The Post, our college educators, the media are the ones who spread the Russian propaganda . The Soviets spent billions influencing our country that the leftists are repeating, "soak the rich, class warfare, racism, socialism, anti-capitalism, social welfare - everything the left does is communist. All from the communist infiltration of our unions, Hollywood, education institutions, funding anti-war protests in the '60s and continuing to fund protests through international ANSWER, funding "activist" groups, collusion with the Islamic terrorist s, Muslim brotherhood, CAIR, black panthers, Farrakhan and other Islamic groups, the current financing through George Soros of every rabble rousing black lives matter and other destabilizing "movements". Not to mention drugs, sex trafficking and other criminal activities. Hopefully the half of the country whose view of reality is so molded by the "Russian" propagandized, will wake up under Trump.

This is in response to information issued by WikiLeaks involving a couple pizza joints.

Do you know what I mean? Have you read the emails? Maybe you should...

I have not seen those but I have heard reference to pizza-gate. can you post a link? I have heard of some horrific actions in Haiti and I saw a young Haitian woman activist on you tube practically begging for Americans to vote Trump. She described Clinton Foundation and UN atrocities
Following the Earth Quake and the grab of Gold mining rights the first in 50 years offered to Tony Rodham's mining concern(caugh). Then Another murder of a young women investigator of human trafficking in Haiti about 10 days ago who according to her friends had just found the smoking gun of the CF's involvement in sex trafficking. I don't know if the story is fake but her death is sure real to her family as my heart goes out to them.

It is interesting to see the reactions and antics of the "established media" in light of an emerging essentially free market for news. My hope is that this new market will shape reliable news sources that present information in ways that we can readily cross check / verify. The "established media" has steadily strayed from journalism into propaganda for may years (as so ably pointed out by the late Edith Efron). It is no wonder that they try to convince us that they alone have a monopoly on "the truth" blanking out the fact that they have been deceiving us for so very many years. Thanks Dobrien -- a very nice post!

      Hi amhunt,
Thank you fou your thoughtful comment. Free market Competition has always led to a better value.
I will have to google Edith Efron as I don't know of her.
      Regards,

Decades ago the people with means to spread news were also gatekeepers. Now anyone can do it. Some people see these fake news stories and think the answer is to go back to the old model of gatekeepers, in this case FB. Real news outlets want people to subscribe and pay for real journalism. I don't have the solution, but I don't think going back to gatekeepers is desirable or even possible.

      Thanks CG,
I think "real news outlets died with Edward R Murrow. To be persuasive we must be believable to be believable we must be credible to be credible we must be truthful" or "We cannot defend freedom abroad if we abandon it at home"
