This does come from Iran, you know. Not that they always lie or anything.... Googling the phrase "U.S. Commandos enter Syria" brings three Iranian sources and "Islamic Invitation Turkey dot com." This is supposed to be a Le Figaro story, but I did not find it there:

This was funny: "L'Afghanistan a rendu Obama extrêmement prudent."

Yes Faith and Force go hand-in-hand. These inter-religious and intra-religious conflicts have dragged on for at least 14 centuries to as many as 30 centuries depending where one chooses a starting date. I wonder if there will ever be a permanent peace between these three religions.

Also Rocky_Road was right, by placing ships offshore and advisors on the ground, the stench of the ghost of Vietnam grows daily.

I cannot find what I thought I read here, a nice, cogent description of the 1000-year war within Islam between Sunni and Shia over the true successors to Mohammed. Like the Protestant-Catholic wars but moreso, this tempers (or at least factors) many if not most conflicts in the region, for instance the Iran-Iraq war, or Saddam Hussein's rule within Iraq for that matter. This is just another example of more of the same. ("Iran cuts Hamas Funding over Syria." the Telegraph UK here: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnew...)

The US and Israel (among others) find this group or that momentarily helpful or harmful.

MM - I did not notice the "ir" in the web address when I looked at it the first time! My humor was appropriate then. I was thinking- surely "O" cannot be that stupid ... on the other hand. ..

Since you brought it up, two Thumbs Ups for the above...
"Iraq Said Spark for UN Kosovo Police Fight, 3 Die"

    Reuters - Saturday, April 17, 2004; 3:45 PM
    By Shaban Buza

KOSOVSKA MITROVICA, Serbia and Montenegro (Reuters) - Two Americans and a Jordanian were shot dead in Kosovo Saturday when emotions over Iraq apparently boiled over into a gunbattle between members of the U.N. law enforcement mission.

U.N. police spokesman Neeraj Singh said two U.S. police officers and a Jordanian were killed and 10 Americans and one Austrian wounded in the shooting.

The lethal firefight between fellow members of the U.N. force was unprecedented in five years of peacekeeping in Kosovo, where police of some 30 nations make up the international force of around 3,500.

The 10-minute shootout took place in the U.N. compound in ethnically divided Mitrovica -- a city that is more commonly the scene of clashes between Serbs and Albanians, in which U.N. police and NATO troops intervene to keep the peace.

Initial reports that the shooting centered on a detention center in the compound were inaccurate. But the U.N. said the dead and wounded included both police and prison staff.

The deputy head of the Serb hospital in Mitrovica, Milan Ivanovic, "I'm sorry that none of the services was able to prevent it..." he added, without elaborating on who might have organized an attack, or why."

(I have more on that incident...)
