Democracy or Republic? I'll take Republic. Don't know the difference? Take 10 minutes of your day and get educated.

We are at the precipice of oligarchy. Every time I hear a newscaster or commentator extol the virtues of our "Democracy” I want to throw my shoe; then I remember it is MY TV... They are enemies of the Republic and should be sued for propagating false information.

Democracy vs. Republic is also at the philosophical heart of the initial founding of the Democrat vs. Republican parties. Democrats have always wanted to chip away at the non-democratic features of our republic (supermajorities, senators representing state's interests, Electoral College, decentralized power, etc...) that were intentionally put there by the founders to protect us from the "tyranny of the majority" that results in standard democracies. Republicans were the defenders of "rule of law" in our republic. To the extent that the modern GOP Establishment ignores the party platform and philosophical foundation of the party, it contributes to our peril.

I wonder if anyone, anymore, knows who actually said that and what its meaning was?

And also scary too. Everybody should know: all democracies end with Mob rule ~ with a strong, benevolent dictator at the helm. At least that's the theory about "benevolent". Let's ignore the Human factor & just stick with the ideology...

It is amazing how many people do not know the difference between a democracy and a republic.
