Socionomic Statism

A major cause of US failures in the Middle East has been our attempts to export statist democracy, with its welfare state baggage and supposed “rights” to everything under the sun, paid for by someone else. Democracy has become two wolves and a sheep voting on what’s for dinner—a sociopathic destroyer of individual rights. These are not our founding principles of a republican, carefully limited and constrained government that protects individual rights, including the right to keep one’s own income. We install “modern” democracy in Shi’a majority Iraq, and surprise, surprise, the Shi’a vote themselves in and tilt the playing field—including a government mandated rather than market determined distribution of oil wealth—towards themselves, elbowing aside the Sunnis and Kurds. Our foundational principles and free market capitalism would much better serve Sunni, Kurd, Shi’a, Jewish, and Christian normals, not just in Iraq but throughout the Middle East, and go much farther toward promoting peace, than cosmetic “inclusion” in kleptocratic governments run by sociopaths.
