These convenience samples are amusing. Reason TV loves them, but it is not proof of anything. You can find five or six stupid people or smart people just about anywhere.

One thing that I noticed, especially when we lived outside Detroit, is that African-Americans tended to wear Bluetooths in their ears, whereas White people tended to use phones in plain vanilla mode. I think that it is a status symbol for the A-As.

Also, you don't have to be Black... When the WWW was rolling out in the early 1990s, our daughter was not at all interested in it. (We had been online since 1984 with other networks.) From her point of view, it was for poor people who wanted to buy junk from Walmart without getting off their couches. We were living in a rural White farming community at the time. But the point is that people who nominally failed at science and math were adept at figuring out how to use computers to do what they really wanted to do.
