This Halloween there are three spooky stories you should know about Congress’s history during the lame duck that are haunted with bad policy. These stories tell us one thing is certain: politicians can’t be trusted to make sound decisions during a lame-duck legislative session.

What is lame-duck session?

Lame duck occurs after every election. It’s that period of time when new lawmakers have been elected but retiring lawmakers still vote.

This is dangerous for taxpayers because many politicians either didn’t seek reelection or lost their seat.

For them, there is no accountability from their constituents.

Instead they often use this time for special interest projects - or even plan what their next career move will be.

Lawmakers also use this legislative period to take unpopular votes because they believe Americans are less likely to notice -- and unfortunately they’re usually right.

What’s happened in previous lame ducks?

2008 Automotive Industry Bailout

In December, as Americans were preparing for the holidays, the House approved a $14 billion taxpayer bailout for the automotive industry that was on the edge of bankruptcy.

2010 Nuclear Treaty with Russia

Three days before Christmas, the Senate ratified the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty despite conservative concerns that the agreement favored Russia’s interest over America’s national security interests.

2012 Large Tax Increase

At 2 a.m. in a rare New Year’s Day vote, a Democrat-controlled Senate signed off on a $620 billion tax increase. House Republicans said that Senate Democrats had forced the deal on them.

What tricks might be played upon us during the next "Lame Duck" period.

1] Taxpayer bailouts for insurance companies under Obamacare?

2] Crony Internet Sales?

3] “Draft our Daughters”?

OR...4] National mandate that we all shit, shower and piss in the presents of perverts!...A real Halloween Scare! boooooooo from behind the stall door.
