"Advance, has additional glands to capture or record what a person is seeing, as well as a Wi-Fi connection to share those images."

And we thought web tracking was bad.

This is an expected direction for bionic technology, and this effort falls short, a subsequent one will succeed. I think there will be a demand for night vision, either by photomultiplication or infrared, or both as an enhanced capability, but the priority has to be on restoring normal vision to those who have lost it, or were born without it.

Like machines, continued use causes a problem with wear and tear. Machines have long been repairable. Animals, less so because unlike machines, they are subject to other creatures attacking and destroying them. But now, artificial mechanical devices can be implanted, some of which function as well as or even better than the original, extending life. In the future, it is possible to eventually have a fully artificial body. Damn! I was born too soon..

I would opt for a less invasive high-tech method of improving or restoring vision, such as gene therapy or the use of stem cells. Synthetic eyeballs might be a last-ditch solution if all else fails.

Agreed. Even so the ingenuity to create something like this that actually works is very impressive. Fortunately I have very good eyes.

One benefit of today's fast-paced rate of technological advance is that we are starting to see multiple solutions to many of today's problems. Consumers will increasingly be able to choose among them.
