The Consequence of Relativism.

I think the article frames this argument well. "If there’s no such thing as objective truth, then learning is impossible. School becomes merely the place where one group’s ideology and opinions are planted into the minds of students. Education becomes indoctrination."

My Understanding is that there is "Truth" in the physical laws of existence; however, if we are learning objectively, rationally and honestly, our understanding of these truths will evolve according to what we have objectively observed. [note: I make the distinction that Truth never changes...what is true is always true.] We are not talking about Facts, Honestly or "what did you do?", connotations of truth. Perhaps this is where the argument lays.

So the question is: Is there objective universal truth? or is truth relative?

OUC, suppose we get a petition going and have him/her/it removed from the Gulch? Extreme but I think warranted in this case.
I'm for freedom of expression as much as anybody and more than a lo, but freedom ends when a fist hits you or your thoughts and idea subjugated to the vile whims of others.
All I ask of this individual is for him/her to post why they decrement. Let the members of the Gulch know why you did it and who you are. NOt an onerous request.
If they don't have the courage or decency to do that, to Hell with them and throw them out.
      +1

Agreed...it's happened to others and just on principle I've marked it back up.
If someone doesn't like the post...post so...do not deprive others of engaging in the conversation.

Many of my post that were originally marked down, once marked up again... went on to do very well with the community.

I've see the same stuff happen to Michael.

Relativism. In mathematics, relative tends to refer to an arbitrary frame of reference. A satellite moves at 33,000 mph relative to the surface of the earth. An airliner moves at 560 mph relative to the ambient air. A corvette moves at 100 mph relative to the pavement. And the driver gets a ticket.

The time is currently 0830 PST. Greenwich time is something else. But we are not relative to Greenwich time. The time is based on the position of the sun overhead. The fact that differences exist does not allow us to maintain that relativism holds true. We know this.

The consequence of relativism is the pursuit of a frame of reference. Absolutists inevitably win this battle.
