Why would our farmers be any different, we all know it's a scam to produce only what the government "Thinks" you should.
Why should we not be producing the very best food in the world! Producing what "People" want.

we have most of our produce grown by large corporate interests not individual farmers so the idea of subsidies disappearing is simply not in th cards. these corporate farmers would scream holy hell just like all the other welfare recipients when their welfare check is in jeopardy. so don't expect that what happened in N.Z.

Great post. Examples like this are hard to find in a world controlled by elitist socialists, trying to control information flow and scrambling for power.

Starts out with the story of corn...the overall theme is the author is following his meals from the beginnin to the eatin...but we learn a whole lot in inbetween.

And that would be a good thing...that crap is eating our engines from autos to lawnmowers, never mind a total waste of energy...hell, even growing the stuff take a lot out of nature...was never meant for more than a cob or two in the summer months and maybe the birds...the stuff makes everything else SICK. Bad for cows and humans.

If only we could do this in the United States!

Of course the ethanol lobby would be apoplectic, as that entire industry would collapse without the government subsidies...

    I agree but would argue
America started the "stuff" that these other countries followed.

I always was against subsidies of any kind. Granted, it would be more disruptive to go this route here in the US right now, but America, England, Australia and New Zealand are the most creative countries in the world...if it worked for NZ, it'll work here too! We are made of the same stuff.

Great article, thanks for the post. It is relevant to me because of the current debate about post-brexit farm policy in the UK.

NZ now producing 2200 different products from dairy, compared to just 35 when it was a govmt controlled industry!
What a great illustration of benefits of more freedom in the market.
