Great article, thanks for the post. It is relevant to me because of the current debate about post-brexit farm policy in the UK.

NZ now producing 2200 different products from dairy, compared to just 35 when it was a govmt controlled industry!
What a great illustration of benefits of more freedom in the market.

And that's a shame...sometimes I wonder if I could make a difference with an underground newspaper...I say newspaper instead of internet site because that wouldn't necessarily be underground.

Don't think so. Yesterday I wrote in a Hot in the Gulch post about something I read in The Birmingham News back during the 90s when I was actually a subscriber.
Then I bought my first PC.
.Save for a rare occasion, I do not read newspapers printed on newsprint.
Military History is the only magazine I subscribe to now.
I quit Popular Science after they very recently interviewed O the Great and Powerful about his view of the future with grandiose full page photos that would make Hitler blush.
No, I did not read whatever O spewed. The photos alone were enough to turn my stomach.
That copy in the mail did not last three minutes before I trashed it in my house.

I am thinking of what, more and more, will happen with the internet, especially if control is turned over to the devil before it turns into a pumpkin tonight.
So my idea would be starting on a community basis working out, but I do envision old fashion news stands...boston/nyc etc.
Also...reading something on physical paper would do the youngens a whole lot of good not to mention would likely not get instantly revised by progressives.
Physical news print would likely survive the zombie apocalypse too. Digital is not for ever...especially if hiltery is still around.

Great post. Examples like this are hard to find in a world controlled by elitist socialists, trying to control information flow and scrambling for power.

Subsidies are merely excuses for the best produces to do no better than the worst producers, so when the shortages come (and they will) the state has an excuse to step in and take over -- and make it worse yet.

I was stationed in the Pacific (classified location) during the mid-70s, and had occasion to visit NZ during its most socialist period. Their economy was so bad, their currency was denied the right to foreign exchange, and their protectionist barriers made most goods incredibly expensive (an American-made kitchen appliance cost ten times what the U.S. price was), with the domestic products even more costly than the imported. Thank goodness they finally waked up and reformed their economy to incorporate free market principles.

trumpet wants to use those same sanctions. His tax plan alone would do the trick...not sure he realizes that.

There's a lot of detail in Trump's approach that doesn't get much press. He's adopted Ben Carson's idea of a tax amnesty for money brought back to the U.S., provided it's invested in job creating ventures here in the U.S. There's over 2 trillion dollars that would return if such an amnesty is declared. Tariffs are a last resort in his plan, but as they say, everything's on the table.

It was thought that farmers would "walk away" if the subsidies ended.

From what I've seen, farmers don't do it to get rich and would most likely keep doing it, without subsidies. If I lost my good paying job, as a radio technician...I wouldn't stop being a technician. I'd simply go to work for someone else, because I've never solely been in it for the money. It's just what I'm good at and enjoy doing...like most farmers.

This article is correct. All of it
    Shit it hurt .
But our farners made it work .
The 1984 Labour then 1987 govt did a complete u-turn on its history, its union base and its recent electioneering
Never a friend of farmers it seemed to seek ti demolish them .
    What? No more subsidies?
But we were gutsy and made success.
Ok my uncle and aunt had to walk off the land but 18'/. Interest rates were part of that.
Today we bought a 'probiotic' cheese.
Cheese used to be cheddar, nothing else.
Problem: our best food is exported
Our great Producer! farmers are having to compete against subsidized food.
Try some nz food some time .
I am not begging you to - I am offering to trade fair value.

we have most of our produce grown by large corporate interests not individual farmers so the idea of subsidies disappearing is simply not in th cards. these corporate farmers would scream holy hell just like all the other welfare recipients when their welfare check is in jeopardy. so don't expect that what happened in N.Z.

Me dino knows the best president money can bribe is paid to play and say garbage like "ISIL has nothing to do with Islam."
Many moons ago I learned why O the Great and Powerful Apologist prefers to say "ISIL" over "ISIS."
ISIL is all about a claim of territory with Israel stuck inside of it.

Interesting point. He still says ISIL. I am not sure I even grant that ISLAM is ok- In their own bible it says to kill the infidels. Thats not good at all. I look askance at anyone who professes ISLAM as a result, until they disavow that part of their bible. If they want to kill me, I am not going to accept them.

For some funny little ole' reason, even an old dino has an aversion to both a "holy scripture" and a religion that wants to kill me.
And over the years I've learned from news accounts that, even if you do convert, you can still get killed for not converting well enough to suit some cleric or even a family member.

Except islam was the product of a very sick individual where as the OT, T and NT were the products of history, a strive for a just civilization and some important tips for mankind's journey into conscious discipline, thought and behavior...unfortunately, that conversation never evolved with our minds and islam was successful in keeping it's people in the dark in the worst possible way and produced the results we see today...it doesn't take much to push the buttons of a pagan society.

The worlds delete think they are sooo evolved, don't need to study the lessons of mankind and our history; yet they cannot rule over their own brain. cannot control their own behavior and couldn't do squat without Us.
Same ole 8000 year old story.

Some how we have to change their "brain set"...I say brain set because if they had a mind they would realize they are taking money from the people including themselves...kind of a sick socialist plan.

Ending the subsidies would certainly drive most of the smallest, non-mechanized farmers from the field (pun intended) -- and indeed they shouldn't be there. I'm not surprised to hear that it will also give you and me more choices. Let it happen!

To assume that it wouldn't work anywhere it is tried is to assume that humans are different in some locations. Given the freedom to choose and the responsibility to go along with it (no subsidies or grants to gently get out) makes people more aware of the consequences of their choices and careful not to do something anti-rational because they know they will pay for it, not someone else.

Not all cultures are at the same stage of conscious evolution...western society is very different than the rest of the world.
Look at Russia...we had to teach them the Free Market...in many ways, they still don't completely get it.

Although they are not at the same stages of conscious evolution is to assume they will not benefit by being free. We didn't teach Russia the free market system, they realized that we had evolved into the socialist market system and there is no difference between us except maybe some degree. What collectivists have learned is to let people think they are free by letting them choose whatever flavor of gasoline they want while demanding that all gasolines are the same. If you control the economy it doesn't matter what you call it, it is still collectivism (tyranny by any other name is still a tyranny).

Of course they will benefit with freedom...and yea, we did have to introduce free market principles to russia...unfortunately, the criminal element were the one's that caught on...there is no ethics in communist societies.
There are many Pre- literate cultures in the world. Culture and language (or lack there of) are a main driver of "Conscious" introspection.

Check our Julian Jaynes, Chad and you'll understand why half the world are still pagan bicameral barbarians.
Hell, just look at the demoncraps, progressives, hiltery...they do not represent any sort of humanity, consciousness nor moral conscience at all.
