This weeks sign is:
Hillary,
I Am A Deplorable
& A Patriot.
You Pompous Ass.

Hillary made the following statement at a LGBT fundraiser for Hollywood elites which generated $6 million for her campaign. Here is her statement in full: "You know, just to be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump's supporters into what I call a basket of deplorables. Right? The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic - you name it. And he has lifted them up. He has given voice to their websites that used to have 11,000 people - now 11 million. Now some of those folks - they are irredeemable, but thankfully they are not America." The audience reacted with howling laughter. To top off the $28,500 ticket price, Barbra Streisand sang a Trump parody version of "Send In The Clowns".

With this "deplorable" statement Hillary framed the 2016 election: it is the politically connected elites versus the basket of deplorables. This statement maybe the undoing of her 2016 campaign. The next day editorials appeared with titles like "De Plorable Unum", "Les De'plorables" and "Hillary Clinton: Basket Case." Even Dilbert creator Scott Adams weighed in with: the "basket of deplorables is such a cute nickname that the targets of that insult have humorously adopted it as there own label." Within days "Deplorable" merchandise was available such as shirts with: "Proud member of the Basket of Deplorables".

I had 2 reactions to Hillary's statement, one was a visceral screw you Hillary, you elitist pompous ass who doesn't live in the real world and hasn't driven a car for 25 years. My other reaction was reflective about what is really going on here. Here are some thoughts:

This is a new attempt at progressive moral positioning similar to Obama's "you didn't build that" statement. Hillary is a collectivist, big government, it takes a village, totalitarian socialist. She believes that your wealth and your life belongs to the state and it is the moral purpose of progressives to do the common good and to do this by spending the common wealth. The common good is whatever is defined by the political elites who all mysteriously get rich by spending the common wealth. If you don't think Hillary is a totalitarian that believes that the government needs to be involve in everything, consider this statement she made Sept 16th: "As FLOTUS (Michelle Obama) said, the choice in this election is about who will have the power to shape our children for the next four years of their lives." That statement could of been directly from George Orwell or Hitler. It's frightening.

The progressives are making a transition from multiculturalism as a moral ideal of the last 20 years to one of a view of Americans not as individuals with individual rights but as members of groups with new group rights. The groups are pitted against one another into tribal warfare. e.g. Blacks versus Whites, "Black Lives Matter" versus the police, illegal emigrants versus law enforcement, the poor versus the rich. As Ayn Rand once said we are becoming a "civil war of pressure-groups looting and devouring one another." The progressives have successfully disconnected from economics in that they view that money just mysteriously appears from the private economy. Progressives are now trying to reposition individuals into a cultural or social abstraction. The left enjoys calling people "racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic and Islamophobic". It has become a game of bullying without taking any personal risks. How many times have you failed to offer an opinion or come to someone's defense because you were afraid of being accused of being stigmatized? The deplorable label is an attempt to give the progressives and elites the moral high ground thru an abstraction with no need for proof. I think it will backfire as Americans are sick of the namby-pamby politically correct language, the moral lectures from Obama, the safe zones of uneducated college kids and the NFL antics of not standing for the National Anthem. This election will tell our direction.

Trump continues to gain ground. On Clintons statement Mike Pence said: "The men and women who support Donald Trump's campaign are hard working Americans, they are not a basket of anything. They are Americans and they deserve your respect." Trump said: "For the first time in a long while, her true feelings came out, showing bigotry and hatred for millions of Americans." Reported today is a Minnesota poll of 44% Clinton, 38% Trump, 6% Johnson, 2% Stein. And that is from an uber- liberal state that even Ronald Reagan didn't carry in his landslide. Those in Minnesota that are considering a protest vote for Johnson because of a belief that their vote in the State wouldn't really matter, need to check their premises.

P.S. I learn something with every sign. Did you know that Barbra Streisand has a refrigerated closet for her furs? How is that for an elitist?
