Tough Phoenix sheriff may have new foe: George Soros

They've been working hard to get Arpaio for many many years. I'd be surprised if this is the only instance of Soros involvement in Joe's attempted lynching. You know you're doing something right when Soros is the opposition.

"Sheriff Joe" is the model for the kind of sheriff I would hope would be around to rescue Eddie Willers and company from the stranded Taggart Comet at the end of AS. That aside, he is the model sheriff for running an inexpensive, but effective, correctional and pre-trial detention program.

AJ I too live in Maricopa county and am thankful that we get to elect our sheriff. He has been elected by the people over and over despite a great deal of government interference and media bashing. I'm waiting for someone to put the kybosh on our ability to elect our sheriff. I figure that is coming soon.

If Soros is funding the Dem, then there Sherriff Joe might have a real battle on his hands. However, Arpaio , has a terrific record and gets a lot of free air time. Let's hope he wins.

Arpaio wipes his ass with the Constitution, and deserves to be in his own jail wearing his own pink underwear.

Fortunately he has not yet won his appeal of his citation for contempt of court.

He and Soros deserve each other.

jdg, you have no clue what you're talking about. I live in Maricopa county, I've seen Arapio at work AND have met and interviewed him 3 times over the years. He carries out the law. The contempt charge he's facing is for CARRYING OUT THE LAW in spite of the judiciary trying like hell to lynch him.

I've vote Arapio until he decides he no longer wants the job or he's no longer with us.

Joe Arapio supports armed citizens. He does not support vigilantism. He's in trouble because he refused to stop checking the immigration status of those lawfully stopped for legitimate offenses AND conducting immigration raids on businesses where someone has called in suspicious activity (which has yielded positive results). AZ SB1070 gave lawful permission for the checking of immigration status during lawful stops. Law says suspicion of criminal activity (illegal immigration and illegal hiring) allows for immigration raids when there is a solid tip.

Again, I will never vote against Arapio or for anyone other than Arapio for Maricopa County Sheriff (unless he does something grievously wrong). The fed gov is not doing their job, mayors aren't doing their jobs, and citizens are living with fear..Sheriff's like Arapio are the ONLY people doing a damn thing about the matter of illegal immigrants. This is why justice department, leftist judges, and a host of politicians and lawyers are looking to remove him from office - he's their toughest opposition who tells it like it is.

I support the rejection of all anti-second amendment laws.

George Soros gets the attention because he's one billionaire promoting open societies, but there are hundreds of thousands of math geeks who want a free and open world, baby Soros's with a few fewer zeros in our net worths, contributing to the same causes.

      Circuit guy:
Based on your previous posts, I think you might want to clarify this post. I'm not sure your meaning is clear.

I'm just saying I'm happy to George Soros supporting open societies (i.e. opening markets in formerly communist countries, reducing drug prohibition, civil liberties, end-of-life issues, protecting the environment) . Without diminishing what one amazing person can do, the little tiny George Soros' of the world, who I'd like to count myself among, move the needle more than one super-rich person.

Since Soros is a remarkably evil dude, I do not trust anything he does. This is a fellow who has literally brought down regimes by economic manipulation and support of ultra liberal causes. He is an unapologetic collectivist and political manipulator.

I don't know enough about him to trust/distrust him. I read one of his books a while ago. It started with his father making complicated plans to escape the Nazi's and his just barely escaping. He talked about believing in free societies and his interest in math and financial instruments. At least from that one book, I agreed with him and identified with him.

So...now you know. There is no one more anti-free enterprise than him. His idea of a free society is representative socialism where the representation doesn't matter so long as it's him and his cohorts in charge.

I don't think I know him based on reading his book, so I certainly don't think I know him based on a few words from a stranger. Whenever you go out and do something, esp if you make billions of dollars, you end up with groups who love you and hate you. So I can't tell, but it doesn't matter. If I take his book at face value, I admire what he stands for. Given some things I've heard about his personal life, it's entirely possible he's misrepresenting himself. I'm just saying I admire the stuff about freedom that he publicly stands for.
