Gary Johnson: Our two-party system has failed, just like our founders said it would

Shortly after drafting the Massachusetts Constitution, John Adams expressed his greatest fear for the nation: “There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader. . . . This . . . is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil.”

Agreed interesting that this was stated before the ratification process was complete and yet in the federalist papers they (to my knowledge) just addressed factions. My how wrong they were, and if the anti Feds didn't nail it on several points maybe it wouldn't be as disturbing.

To be fastidious, I'd say just as our founders said it would, since founders is a subject of a verb and not an object. :) I think that rule is disappearing from English though.

On a more interesting point, I knew the founders were against factions, in Federalist 10 and maybe 9. I couldn't tell if they meant armed militia, political parties, or both. I am amazed to hear Adams specifically was worried about two parties b/c (I think, not sure) there were not two dominate parties at that time. If there were not two dominate parties, that was amazing foresight from Adams.
