I saw that NMA is going to Spain and that O.A. is talking about going to Monticello.

My family is going through Charleston, SC, Richmond, VA, Norfolk, VA, perhaps Nags Head, NC, and definitely mostly Williamsburg/Jamestown/Yorktown, VA in July. Do you have any recommendations for absolute must-sees or for absolute never-sees (like South of the Border)?

Since you will be in Virginia why not see Mananas and other civil war battle sites and discuss with the kids the truth about what the war was really fought over. I also enjoyed Harpers Ferry. There is a point where you are standing in W. VA, and on one side of the river is VA and the other MD. There is also a cave system near Front Royal that is really interesting.

Being from the west I found the grist mills and the like really interesting.

I have been to Manassas and Harpers Ferry, as well as the entire Shenandoah Valley, visiting Civil War Sites. We've also done a lot of caves near and south of Front Royal. They are indeed wonderful. Most of the Civil War sites we will see on this trip will be in Richmond. Mostly we are going to be further south and east than what you are recommending. That area is wonderful, but we have been to those spots on a couple of trips.
