Beautiful, tenacious, and fearless, Dagny Taggart has inspired women and men alike for over 50 years.

As Atlas Shrugged Part 3 heads to production, some major decisions still lay ahead. For the past several months, we've read all over the web everything from "Taylor was PERFECT!" to "Samantha IS Dagny!" to "You should have case [INSERT NAME HERE]!"

Now it's time for you to tell us directly. Who is Dagny Taggart?

Taylor from Part 1? Samantha from Part 2? If you had to pick someone else, who would it be? Beyond her ability to embody the character of Dagny Taggart, what else should be considered when casting Dagny? Should she already be an advocate of Ayn Rand's ideas? Should she have at least read Atlas?

I much preferred Rebecca Wisocky as Lillian. She played the part with a subtlety that made her a bitch, but one I could envision either Hank falling for initially. Kim Rhodes played her as such a whiney bitch I couldn't imagine Hank ever having wanted to be in the same county.

I agree on "oh no, not again." Although I preferred Jason Beghe as Reardon (which necessitated the more-mature Dagny to make that relationship believable), almost any mixture of the part 1 and part 2 casts would be better than the shock of another entirely new cast.

The question should be the cast, not just Dagny! The cast in Part one became the characters - I never felt the cast in Part 2 achieved that. PLEASE

Here is the rest of what I think, said by someone else - I said it in the "Who is John Galt" debate.

I like the idea to have three comnpletely different casts for each part. It is more Logical, and it transports the idea that we all here are John Galt to some extent.

The cast from part I was the best. Part 2 was weak- a bad francisco who mouthed the words only, a worse dagny who could have played one of the statists better than Dagny, a non believable Hank Rearden. YOu cant have a series based on a book with different actors from parts 1 thru 3. Just go back to the first batch

I don't think Samantha is a particularly bad actress, but having seen Part 1 and anticipating Part 2, I was rather disappointed with Samantha as she seemed old and tired compared to the energy and spark that Taylor brought to the part.

I could not agree more. Taylor nailed the part, and has the look and attitude that I imagined when I read AS.

Sure! :-) So...majority or not, I definitely identify Taylor as the stronger Dagny. How about you?

Taylor had the part nailed, and Samantha played Dagny as an exhausted, worn-out woman with little of the underlying strength that Dagny had. Taylor would have grown into the character more, if given the chance and good direction. Why any of the AS1 cast was replaced remains a mystery, with the exception of Robert Picardo, as radicallbill pointed out.

Sorry, I was too abrupt. Do over:
In discussing who should play one of the pivotal characters in a movie about strong individuals, among other things, just being able to get more votes is not a valid criterion for decision. Just because more people think something doesn't make it true/better/more valid/etc.
    More understandable?

In number 1 Dagny (Taylor) was young, beautiful and looked exactly as I thought she would. On the other hand in number 2 Dagny (Samantha) was middle aged, overweight, and a poor actress.

While I enjoyed both actors, Taylor Schilling captured the intelligence, glamor and sex appeal - that surely captured all these amazing talented men - and finally John Galt.

I agree Taylor from Part I is my choice for Dagny. I would like to see as many of the other Part I actors to return for Part III as well. They seemed like a more dynamic group in general. I am really looking forward to Part III in 2014. Have already purchased both Part I and II as soon as they came out.
