Who is Dagny Taggart?

Beautiful, tenacious, and fearless, Dagny Taggart has inspired women and men alike for over 50 years.

As Atlas Shrugged Part 3 heads to production, some major decisions still lay ahead. For the past several months, we've read all over the web everything from "Taylor was PERFECT!" to "Samantha IS Dagny!" to "You should have case [INSERT NAME HERE]!"

Now it's time for you to tell us directly. Who is Dagny Taggart?

Taylor from Part 1? Samantha from Part 2? If you had to pick someone else, who would it be? Beyond her ability to embody the character of Dagny Taggart, what else should be considered when casting Dagny? Should she already be an advocate of Ayn Rand's ideas? Should she have at least read Atlas?

    Taylor set the standard. She truly played the part perfectly and had me convinced she was Dagny or at lest could be. Would love to see her again. Bringing in a third person would totally ruin the film and make it less enjoyable to watch.

    TAYLOR! And Grant Bowler. Unless you can get Daniel Craig to play Hank or Galt, he'd be great ;-)

    I agree, They both brought unique strengths, Taylor, determination, Samantha passion for both answering the question, and saving her business.

    I prefer the cast from #1. Everyone was much better than #2.

    Any serious actress will want to read ATLAS as part of her character research. That's essential, but she does not need to agree with Objectivism in order to deliver a strong dramatic performance...just understand the soul of Dagny and play it 100%.

    Since no one mentioned her, Taylor Schilling was by far and away the best Dagny!

    Taylor was PERFECT! Bring Grant back also! Samantha was OK but I really got hooked on the movie series because of Taylor's performance.

    Correction: I was disappointed that I was NOT able to see Grant deliver the soliloquy during the trial scene of ASII.

    Taylor Schilling and Grant Bowler ARE Dagny and Hank Rearden. I agree with the others who state Taylor was able to capture the naivete and hardness of the character. I want to add I was very disappointed that I was able to see Grant deliver the soliloquy at the trial in ASII. Please bring him back.

    The solution is to imagine who would play Ayn Rand as a young woman. Not a Brit ... they really don't understand capitalism - it has to be someone who sympathises with laissez-faire capitalism.

    The Actor should definitely have read Atlas Shrugged, at least before filming begins, so that they can best portray Dagny. If I had to choose from part 1 and 2 I would choose Taylor from part 1. Although, I wouldn't mind if they cast someone different entirely.
    Dagny is difficult to cast because she is so incredible. Rand describes her as being elegantly beautiful, strong, poised, and commanding. I have been in love with Dagny since I first read Rand in college.

    Taylor, absolutely. And as much of the original case from Part 1 as you can get. The only exception I would make would be Robert Picardo, he was excelent.

    Please bring Taylor back as Dagny! She embodied every part of Dagny from the books. I was quite disappointed with Samantha, as she wasn't strong like Dagny, but mousey and timid. No offense to Samantha. I just believed Taylor was Dagny!
