"Properly digested, failure can be a medicine against one of humanity's great foibles."

Humility is not a handicap...it's empowering.

Humility is vastly over-rated concept emphasized by those without the drive and Objective ethics to strive.

I get what your saying but it goes a little deeper than that...hubris is a falsehood whereas humility embraces the truth...it's not about false ego like the left thinks, their the one's with the ego problem.
So it's not a problem to say "You Built That" it is a problem if you say it but you didn't build that...like goreski and the internet.

Read a paper on the true historical meaning of this but didn't save it (like so many times) but all I can do is paraphrase what little got integrated into my mind...(may not be a perfect reflection of the article)

My inspiration sources are much more pithy on this subject...and historical.

Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.
    - Theodore Roosevelt

Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
    - Thomas A. Edison

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.
    - Winston Churchill

A person who doubts himself is like a man who would enlist in the ranks of his enemies and bear arms against himself. He makes his failure certain by himself being the first person to be convinced of it.
    - Alexandre Dumas

Funny how the left And today's youth need protection from failure.
They loath competition but competition is two or more individuals, depending upon each other to be the best they can be. This also is the source of good sportsmanship.
