"For the first time since 1975, the number of white single-mother households who were living in poverty with children surpassed or equaled black ones in the past decade, spurred by job losses and faster rates of out-of-wedlock births among whites."

An exerpt from the headline artical Signs of......

"It's time that America comes to understand that many of the nation's biggest disparities, from education and life expectancy to poverty, are increasingly due to economic class position," said William Julius Wilson, a Harvard professor who specializes in race and poverty.

He noted that despite continuing economic difficulties, minorities have more optimism about the future after Obama's election, while struggling whites do not."

So,I wish to add that in Ayn Rand's "Last Public Speech"...during the Q&A at the end...someone asked her.. how can we best help the poor?
Ms. Rand's answer: By not being poor.

My first checkmark would be in front of the attempt to globalize the US economy..disguised as offering it up to the United Nations to share our hard earned wealth with every nation on earth. I am not suggesting isolationism...well maybe just for a little while. I'd like to take care of America first, we need some serious help here. Wait a second until I can take cover.

      I prefer a little non-intervention over isolationism.
We seem to have forgotten that "Charity begins at home."

If we were fossil fuel independent (and we could be), then we could resign our global hall monitor role.

As it is, the Middle East holds our economy hostage...literally.

Absolutely. We need to become energy independent, but I don't mind trading with other nations. I just tire of being the world's policemen.

“I am for free commerce with all nations; political connection with none; and little or no diplomatic establishment”
          George Washington
Now I know the world has changed, but our acting like the lone ranger coming to the rescue for every third world hiccup has not brought us or them any lasting peace or prosperity.
I say leave them to sort things out themselves and if they attack us then unleash the dogs of war without limit. Otherwise stay out of it.
