Cruz renounces Canadian citizenship; still not eligible to hold office

According to Megyn Kelly, Ted Cruz has renounced his Canadian citizenship.

He was born in Canada; his father was a Cuban immigrant, and I still don't know if he became a citizen before Cruz's birth.

Cruz was not born on American soil, nor were his parents working for the U.S. government at the time. His father wasn't a citizen.

Therefore, like Obama, Ted Cruz is not a natural born citizen, and therefore ineligible to hold the office of President.

Okay, now start screaming about how terrible I am for insisting the Constitution be obeyed, now that it's a conservative who's ineligible rather than Obama...

Just finished the youtube - that was good. I often wish our Congress did this kind of thing en masse instead of just the committee hearings.

"natural born" means that you are born a citizen to parents who are citizens.

"Natural", back in the day, (also) meant that you could identify your father....

Ah, the babbling brook and I like and can strongly relate to db's answer. That thing about making the father watch the whole thing - now I'm telling you, that's some natural stuff there.

now its in the woods and the baby plops down into a babbling brook that you're still supposed to filter before drinking. poor natural born babies. When my first daughter was born, my in-laws asked db if it was a natural birth. he replied, "it was natural enough for me!"
I think that 3D gun guy has been quite the patriot

No, a real man drives, always. A real man wants the ball when the game is on the line. A real man wants to be the one in control, not the one whispering advice behind the throne.

No, because her cultural understanding and conditioning, not to mention her loyalties, would British, not American.

If you need an example to prove that people are not raised in a cultural vacuum, look at Obama.

    Article 2, section 1, clause 5:
"No person except a natural born Citizen, or a *Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution*, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States."

They were citizens at the time of the adoption. Don't forget, we had the Articles of Confederation prior to the Constitution...

Now, now. Found a quote the other day from Cody Wilson, the 3D printed Gun guy, describing Obama as 'a grocery clerk, a fraud, and a car salesman used to sell us stuff on TV' (paraphrase), but that description fits my perceptions of Cruz as well.

But he's got a couple of years to change my mind. But a hell of a lot better than Christie or Bush, even though they might be a better fit as 'natural born'. I hope natural born doesn't mean you have to do it at home in a plastic wading pool with the help of a mid-wife only, and tie-dyed diapers.

What's wrong with obeying the Constitution? Besides that, I don't trust Cruz - he's too politicky, too used car salesman, and too opportunistic for me. Someone born to a military family while overseas or to a diplomatic family seems to me to fit natural born, but to a non-citizen or a citizen living abroad - no.

I stick with the Constitution. If he is a real man, he doesn't want to be President he wants to mentor the president

I think most of them were born in the 'country' or commonwealths that became the country. No?
