My wife was almost killed by a texter doing 70 MPH on the San Diego Freeway. This moron rammed into her from behind on the wide open freeway as she was taking our nephew to the airport. My wife managed to get both cars to the shoulder and sustained some injury to her neck and head. She's lucky to be alive. Please watch the clip.

Texter plowed into the back of my new truck in February. I was so sad at the damage to the truck. I'm almost unfazed. The truck will never be the same, though.

Oh gawd, more nanny-state pc BS. I just hope tax dollars didn't pay for this preaching.

I don't buy that mobile use is the #1 cause of death behind the wheel. Distracted driving might be. But, hey, let's demonize a demographic. It worked against tobacco...

In a country where you can get a driver's license without even taking driver's ed (ironically, to get a concealed carry permit in those States that violate the Constitution by requiring them, you have to take firearms ed), let's blame a popular piece of electronics. Sure, it's the device, not the incompetent driver.

I'm sorry that most people can't see that this is just gun control in different clothing.

In case you didn't see it, it was an automobile manufacturer (Volkswagen) that produced the commercial - not a government entity.

And what is the #1 cause of distracted driving? Cell phones. The CDC even publishes that the top killer of those 5-34 is automobile accidents (http://www.cdc.gov/injury/overview/data....).

I think there is sufficient evidence that this is a real problem. I would not dismiss it so lightly.

I call bullshit. Why is the CDC wasting our tax dollars on this? Distraction isn't a disease.

I'd say the number one cause of distracted driving is conversation. They should pass a law requiring all cars to be single-seaters.

The top killer is... cancer... heart disease... suicide... obesity... second hand smoke... global warming... Oh, sorry, was busy flipping through the commercials on tv, each of which claims something else as the number one killer.

It's not a real problem, unless screaming brats in the back seat is a real problem. It's not a real problem, unless eating a Big Mac and slurping on an extra extra humongous Coke is a real problem, unless being high on marijuana is a real problem, unless putting on your makeup is a real problem.

The Wal-mart truck driver in the latest scandal? He wasn't freaking texting, or talking on the cell phone while driving; he was exhausted.

The last accident I had was due to an icy hill and large tree. Or maybe I was texting... in 1990. The most frequent cause of my needing to evade an accident is nearly falling asleep at the wheel; running a close second is... idiots who don't know what brakes are for, who never learned the two second rule, who think it's okay to signal as you turn (or to signal five miles before), in a word, people on the road who don't freaking know how to drive.

Cell phones are a scapegoat. Just as guns are scapegoats for the actions of maniacs.

The stat that nobody seems to be collecting, and I'd *love* to see is... who dies in these texting-caused accidents? They're content to say that somebody died, but is the texter most often the one getting killed?

If so... think of it as evolution in action.
