The Republican Party's Civil War: Will Freedom Win?

for those scratching their heads over the Republican Party's troubles, I refer you back to a set of essays addressing how we got to where we are and what we can do about it. from the post: k: "I noticed the author and editor of this book, Dr. Ed Hudgins from the Atlas Society, has recently landed in the Gulch. Since two of the authors of this book are fellow gulchers I thought you may want to check this out. Please consider reviewing. Other authors in this collection of essays are: David Mayor, David Kelley, Walter Donway and William Thomas. from wdonway (in a post from a year ago): "The Republican Party's Civil War" asks: What were the underpinnings of the party in political philosophy, what are they today, and what must they become if the party is to stand for the rights to live, liberty, and happiness? They are important questions for those who realize that in America, at every election, there are only two parties. "Is the success of "The Republican's Party's Civil War"--which puts in no uncertain terms the choices that America faces--and exposes the futility of the businessmen who pour money into the party and suppose they have done all the can--and refutes the all-too-justified perception that the Republican Party is the pal of Wall Street's crony capitalists--worth the time it takes to compose a few intelligent sentences for an Amazon review? " I guess they'd like some reviews :) This subject always spurs a lively discussion in the Gulch so bring it!"

"What were the underpinnings of the party in political philosophy,"
It would do me good to read a book like The Republican Party's Civil War addressing this question.
In my lifetime, I see them as standing for the stuff in the Conservative Sellout video.

Democrats pretend to have a vision that says even if gov't is more powerful, they'll manage it really well. Look, they say, at how we now respect the basic rights of more groups. They'll take credit for that. Republicans can't be too vocal about respecting rights because to reach a majority they depend on the minority of lowlives who want gov't not to respect people's rights so they won't feel like their at the bottom of the packing order. So they end up indirectly standing for the very opposite of liberty. Democrats would have their own pecking order, but they at least pretend like they're promoting liberty. Republicans can't even pretend. They could never be to open about this, though, until Trump removed the thin veil and suggested it openly-- more state power, but wielded in the interests of good people like you, whoever's listening to the speech.

If I'm wrong and the Republicans actually do stand for liberty, they have a serious branding problem. Someone here posted something about a year ago saying they do a lousy job with optimistic people who like their jobs, believe in liberty, and respect their neighbors. I agree completely. I see them as being mostly against those things, mostly for exploiting people's petty fears. I find it ironic every time I hear someone say someone didn't stand up for liberty despite being Republican. Anti-liberty seems their made theme. So I truly don't get it.

Those 144 pages would probably do me good. I note that its title mentions the Republicans being at war with themselves, yet it was published two years before this war came to a head.

I would like to say something nice about the right wing of the left and distilled it all down into the following ...look between the quote marks. They got one exta blank space for not being former Democrats.
