I've got a few years on you, I think. I'm going back to the 50's and early 60"s, quite a while before Watergate. Both papers turned left at about the same time I did, but after the "68 convention here in Chicago, I finally came to my senses. BTW, Bill Ayers and Bonnie Dorn weren't any nicer then than they are now.

Yeah...my political consciousness didn't really begin until Nixon.

I loved Kennedy, and I was in high school when he was killed. Now I realize (from numerous books) that the press willingly ignored the scaly underside of his life, and administration (Bay of Pigs). This opened my eyes as to the power of the press, and how they could blatantly dismiss their assigned duties....

The nation needs the truth on a daily basis to survive. The internet is fast becoming this source, but the average voter will not spend the time to ferret out the truth from propaganda.

Enjoying talking about all of this with another 'old codger'!

The Washington Post hung with the Watergate story until it finally bore fruit...but it was a liberal rag even then, and Nixon was the Republican you love to hate. Fast forward to today, and this administration gets a 'Get Out of Jail' card from the Post, and the NYT.

There hasn't been an objective press since Eisenhower was in power, and McCarthy went after the communists in the State, and other departments.
