Yetmore evidence of the fasilure of the Socialist model. Yet our glorious government will probably blame Kimberly Clark for "not working productively with the government" or some such...

Kimberly Clark was STUPID to have waited this long. Hopefully they looted their own factory before taking this action. I sure would have to make sure that not a single diaper would be made at that factory under Maduro.

But they probably werent smart, and will lose millions to Maduro's gang.

I have thought for awhile now that we in the USA should look to Venezuela to see how things will go here. What they can get away with, and in what order they will try things.

We will have a major currency and debt crisis due to our governments actions, and they will try to cover it over and prevent people from protecting themselves.

Minimum wage raises are already in the works. Next comes 10-289 where it will be illegal to lay off workers that arent worth $15/hour.

Its certainly time to really question the employment of people, and the desirability of owning businesses which have a lot of fixed assets.

I dont want to support the establishment looters any more.

There will always be voters that will vote for the politicians that promise free stuff. It is the primary task of the politicians to increase the number of such voters as much as possible to assure reelection. The true goal of politics to gain and retain power. The voters are simply a means to that end. They serve no other purpose.

Actually you are right. Bush was no prize, nor was Reagan. Nixon was a disaster with his money devaluation and taking us off the gold standard. Obama was the worst of all and hildebeast has promised to continue his legacy

It is hard to find one good one in the last crop since 1900. All have tried to ram their agenda down everyone. I actually think Reagan may have been the best of a poor bunch, I cannot recall any real damage he did, and he had the right idea for dealing with a dying Russia.

He outspent Russia and bankrupted them. But his history of expanding government size and spending is terrible. He is the one who put in sales tax in California. As governor

I suspect if John Galt came to life and actually was presented with the presidency, he wouldnt want it. Things are so screwed up with entitlements that he would never be elected without supporting socialism, and if elected anyway he would be probably assassinated for cutting back on it.

A friend of mine's dad worked for a big corp who's plant was about to be taken over by some tin pot socialist south American gov't in the 1970s. He had his staff standing there - each with a sledgehammer - when the gov't officials came for the keys and said, "So? Would you like to pay for these machines? Or should I have my guys make a few adjustments to them first?. Believe it or not, it worked. They paid up. I always thought that was a great story.

Oh, no! El Presidente Maduro actually blamed our Socialist-In-Chief of committing "the new imperialist inquisition," which I suppose alludes to inflicting some new form of torturous persecution upon Venezuela.
Yes, Maduro actually dared to spew forth such slanderous propaganda!
So there's no way--no way!--O the Great and Powerful shall ever sit still for such a vile verbal attack leveled at his regime.
No way, I tell you! No freaking' way!
Another apology tour should be forthcoming.

In America, where the people have assets left to steal, the government instead "bails out" companies that fail by "forcing" the larger failures to take over the smaller failures, and the innocent public foots the bill.
The difference is where the process is on the time-line to destruction by statist looters in the government racket and business cartels.

The problem is that the looters want to draw first, and it's hard to know when they will take their action. For example, obamacare really took over medical care. The insurance companies are pretty much dead already. Medicare will just take them over now under the guise of controlling health care costs. This means the value of those companies will drop quite a bit- looters win on that one!

Businesses with large investments will be very vulnerable targets and hard to protect. Best to build them up with loans rather than investment when socialism is on the rise

I am not sure of that term. From what I see, the Obamacare turned into a boondoogle for insurance companies, they opened up a lot more ways to screw us all, and with government backing.

I think Obama got their support for obamacare by promising them riches, knowing that costs would go thru the roo and sew the seeds for Medicare to come in with lower premiums (and back door taxpayer support, hidden of course) and blow them out of the water. I think it was a diabolical plan and the insurance companies were stupid

It's hard to tell. I have not seen any companies failing because of it. If anything, the state run exchanges have mostly failed, because the "savings" that they lied about and were revealed by their creator, never could, or did, materialize. Another bill of goods sold to the sheeple by the state controllers.

“Forty-eight hours ago, without notice, a U.S. company called Kimberly-Clark, violating national laws and the constitution, fired almost 1,000 workers from its production plant, closed the door and left the country,” Maduro said on state television. He added that the government would support the workers now in control of the plant.

Venezuela’s move to reactivate Kimberly-Clark’s facilities on behalf of its workers follows a similar takeover in 2014 when Clorox Co. announced it was closing its doors.
Speaking on state television, Labor Minister Oswaldo Vera said the plant in Aragua state would immediately be occupied. “A company that closes is a company that will occupied by its workers."

Kimberly-Clark joins Bridgestone, General Mills, Procter & Gamble and other multinational corporations in scaling back operations in Venezuela amid its economic crisis. More will follow.

I would show up in the dead of night and reset all the machines to make not one more diaper before I left.

But then again, I would have gotten out of there a long time ago.

They can change oil for paper? Who knows maybe all the te managers didn't go with them when they left. People forget. The Means of Production are ALL the employees. Janitor to CEO. There are no exceptions except as certain steel makers brother. How that story went was just repeated by the Russians. Lots of Billionaires zero production

Helmrich & Payne lost 11 drilling rigs, worth around $250 million because, even though PDVSA wouldn't pay for them, they weren't allowed to move them out of the country.

Years ago, when there was still time to sell and get their money out, my expat friends failed to admit what I told them was coming. They all lost everything and had their pockets searched for cash on their last flights out.

The time to get assets out was when Chavez was elected. These people always tell you what they're going to do; people just refuse to believe them. Obama told us and, far too many people chose not to believe him but, he's done almost exactly what he said he would.

These companies are STUPID by and large. Just like in Atlas Shrugged. Anyone still in Venezuela IS stupid, and they might as well just turn over their wealth to Maduro so he can stay in power.

Very good points, and very true. When people try to object before the idiots rape the land, they get shouted down as "doomsday conspirsacy theorists" and some such. No one wanted to listen to the few objections to the Obamanation, and look how well we have done, and rinse and repeat with Hillary beast.

I bet not. If K-C was owned by a real person, he would have done that. But its an amorphous corporation run by committees of James Taggarts. They probably left a perfectly running company, which will fail anyway within a year or so.

I think the US government supported financially the dictators in many cases. Most of them DID get tossed out, like Batista. Then real socialism took over.

I am sure of it, Batista was just the better known example, there have been several in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and I believe they even danced with Peron before he got wised up to it.

Incredible. "The new imperialist inquisition"... An inquisition is defined as "an official investigation, especially one of a political or religious nature, characterized by lack of regard for individual rights, prejudice on the part of the examiners, and recklessly cruel punishments". It is clear from the seizure that rights, to Maduro, do not mean property rights. I need not belabor the fact that the rights Maduro would speak of are, of course, non-existent if one rejects the initiation of the use of force.

Though it is comical that the man feels it allowable to complain about a bank LEAVING his country and to call it "imperialist".

Venezuela is an example of how leftists delude themselves even it is so clearly shown that socialism doesn't work. It's as if someone doesn't believe you can drown underwater, even when you hold their head under they find an excuse.

What did Venezuelan law require Kimberly-Clark to do? I don't imagine it required the people working there to keep running the plant without pay.

I would think the socialist gov't would be celebrating. Now they have full ownership and control of these means of production, abandoned by Clorox and Kimberly-Clark. Now they can administer it for the benefit of society, unfettered by the need to send profits to shareholders around the world. The Venezuelan people will be watching for the windfall.

Maduro required Kimberly-Clark to help support his regime, thats all. If it meant making diapers and not getting paid, so be it.

I do hope both of those companies were not stupid enough to leave anything of value for the looters to take.

I actually hope they had to leave most of the value for the looters and the Venezuelan people know it. They can have a direct comparison with the exact same means of production managed privately and centrally.

I disagree. The more that is taken over by Maduro, the longer he will last. Same with the USA- as long as the looters can loot, they stay in power. Socialism only lasts until the other guy's money runs out.
The venezuelan people are socialists and they will believe that K-C was just a bad company and it should have been taken over. The only thing you can do with socialists is let them starve in their cold, dark tents.

I side-by-side comparison would blow away the socialist narrative. It's possible, though, that as term2 says the socialists in that country have their minds made up and won't be confused with the facts.

BTW, I agree with term2 on that point but regject everything roneida and term2 are saying regarding President Obama and making this issue somehow about race.
