He had no idea his mind was blind...until last week.

Like so many I have interviewed that said they had no voice, couldn't practice a speech in their heads...this man can't picture it.

The picture producing right brain has served mankind and possibly animal kind well...one might say it is instinctive and serves where no language is present but with language and consciousness has produced some of the worlds greatest treasures.

Can You picture it...if not you may have the same condition this man does.

In music, there is a concept called "playing, or singing, to the sixth sense". In this case the sixth sense being emotion. If your playing behind the singer on a recording, you hear the lyric and the melody, then play a fill that reflects the emotion of the words and interprets a small piece of the melody. I remember asking a guitarist to just play what comes to mind when we rolled the audio. At the end of the song he had not played a single note. I saked him if his headphones were working, he said "yes, I listened. Nothing came to mind." This was not dry humor, this was his emotive experience in the studio. The ironic thing is this guy was a great player when he was reciting what someone else had played on a recording.

On a tangent, I see that a lot in current politics. There are a lot of people aping opinions they have heard somewhere, and very few thinking and analyzing the situation for themselves.

As a trombonist, I was often called upon to play Dixieland style music. I was part of a large touring band and after our gig, depending on where we were we'd often go play somewhere just for fun. When we did Dixie, which I had never previously done, there was no written music. Someone just started out with an idea and somehow, we all just followed along, taking our turns at solos as the spirit moved us. The weird thing for me was that I actually saw the music as I heard it. It was the strangest and at the same time most wonderful of experiences.

Strange. I never see anything in my mind. All dark. That obviously is why creative writing was my hardest English class. The only time I remember seeing an imagine was during an out of body experience when I was in a coma for 24 hours. I actually saw myself looking down at my body, which was unable to move at all. I saw light, a gown, and white haze. I could see my parents in the hall talking to my doctor. remember is clearly, likely because that is my only mind image, yet I never realized it..

Hmm...I remember those out of body experiences...I liked them so much as a kid, I learned to create them so I could go to sleep...I imagined myself as very, very small and remember that feeling.
I wonder if you could train yourself to see...perhaps a picture at a time.

What I hate is being with someone I know and having someone I should know walk up.
How the heck do you make introductions without embarrassing yourself?

I do it by remembering physical parameters: Height, gender, weight, skin/hair color, and eyeglass prescription. For eyeglasses, I can guestimate if it's convex or concave and whether it's to large/small degree. If I go to a place where I only know five people, even if they look alike, they will be certainly different on one of these parameters, and it's easy to distinguish them. Even at networking events, there are only so many people I'm likely to see there. The problem comes with people out of context. Sometimes I see someone who is a perfect match for all parameters for someone I work with. In this case I nod to them and see if they react. If I'm with someone I'm close to, I'll say, "that person looks like John" and see if they confirm. In other cases people approach me, and my mind scrambles to go through the list of hundreds of people I know and their parameters. Usually they sense my confusion and tell me who they are.

My son does not have this, but I think my 5 y/o daughter does. We had a vet tech helping the cats in the kitchen while my wife was at work. My daughter asked what mom's doing. I said she's at the office. My daughter stared at the vet tech intently, looking confused. I realized the vet tech has the same physical parameters as my wife. She too apparently remembers people as I do with same part of our brain where we store a pad lock combination. My wife says this does give me an excuse to kiss other women who look similar to her

Interesting, I have some of the issue they talk about and not others. I can imagine images pretty well, but can't remember names or where I parked sometimes. Interesting article, thanks.

Names are my problem as well...sometimes it clicks and sometimes it doesn't...never thought of combining the image of their face with the name.

I thought it was interesting when the suggestion was made about visuals and morals.

Frustrating thing is to see someones face and not be able to put a name to it, or vice versa. That happens a lot, sometimes I wonder if it is early onset AZ, but at 58, I am beginning to think it might be scheduled, not early anymore....:)

Not necessarily my friend...could be all the distractions these days or as simple as just spending a lot of time in your mind and ignoring your brain...that's my prob. I think.

I read a piece about how sugar stops the process of cleaning debris and rebuilding connections in the brain and that cutting out sugar and replenishing gut bacteria (probiotics) helps restore short term memory. Another article about blue light is amazing as well.

I ordered specific probiotics for my blood type about a month ago and I think I'm beginning to get back my mojo.

Really, is there some articles you can reference as to these probiotics and how you define them to your blood type? Interesting.

I am not sure I saved the article, if I did, I'll post it for you. As to the probiotics you can get them from: right4yourtype.com
If you don't know what your blood type is or are not certain then there is a bloodtyping kit you can get and do it yourself.
Using probiotics makes sense cause your gut is where your immune system is. If your eating stuff that's not right for you or even if you are, your proper gut bacteria needs to be replenished from time to time in todays world. we're not getting enough from our food. You might be thinking about yogurt but yogurt might not be right for you. It's a no no for me.
It's worth a shot...but from the start, remember how long it's taken for you to get this way, you ain't gona fix it over night.

I've noticed a slight difference...now I'm looking for light bulbs that shine a bluish light and see if I notice additional improvements.

Note, I did not have a big problem, I only just started forgetting specific words while speaking to a group...it was beginning to drive me crazy.

I do the yogurt thing, but I do not have faith it is anything like the old yogurt, and it is so processed it may lack any real value. I will check it out, thanks.

Politicians say politics is the art of the possible. I say that politics is the art of the acquisition of power over others. Each man must decide for himself which is true and which is honorable.
