Do we have a Midas Mulligan here yet?

I'm ready to set up shop, but I'm not going to do so until I know where we are going to do so. If we had a Midas Mulligan or even a real estate tycoon from which we could buy land, then I don't think it would take long for a community to grow once it nucleated.

There was a mountain community up near the Tennessee/Kentucky border that went upside down financially before advertising on Rush Limbaugh about a year ago, for example.

I do have a few friends that work for the satellite companies. Harris, for example, is my university's biggest employer. There are a couple of researchers actually working on materials with negative indexes of refraction. One of the applications of that concept would be an invisibility cloak. Perhaps John Galt's shield isn't so farfetched after all.

Perhaps the private company making the satellites could build in a blind spot or two...

Recall that the best defense of the Gulch in the novel was its isolation, and the basic, fundamental incompetence of the government's institutions. But that was in an era before look-down satellites.

I tend to agree. As much as I like my east central Florida, I think a Caribbean island would be nice, at least for the winter home of the Gulch.

After reading this I googled "executive orders that will end freedom" and found the reason(s) why it may not be a good idea to "set up shop" (aka "Go Galt") in the USA.
