Rotten to the Core, by Robert Gore

Never underestimate the petulance of humiliated Eurocrats, or other poobahs for that matter. What terrifies the Eurocrats is the virtual certainty that the British economy will outperform Europe’s after the Brexit. They may cut off their constituents' noses to spite their own faces, erecting trade barriers against British goods and services, for which Europe’s consumers will pay the price. However, trade barriers are a two-way street. Britain is an important export market, especially for the de facto leader of the EU, Germany, so cooler heads may prevail, a hope expressed by Nigel Farage in a remarkable speech to the European Parliament.

    Hello straightlinelogic,
    Another enjoyable read.
I expect trade to increase between GB and nations such as our own that are not part of the EU. Their loss will be our gain and those participating in the new paradigm. What say you?

All the gloom and doom predictions, I believe, have been greatly exaggerated. If one believes the market is an indicator, since it has already recovered, shouldn't the doomsayers be eating crow?

    Regards,
    O.A.

The stupidity of the EU just gets stupider. Reminds me of an old pun:
"She was generous to the Brigade, but rotten to the Corps."

One thing I've never heard O'Reilly say for the word of the day is, "Anytime, anytime, anytime you wish to opine, don't be a poobah when writing to the Factor."

What's with all the Clinton bashing? It's not as if they did something really sleazy, like having a private meeting with the attorney general while Hillary is under investigation. . .

I think that in 6 months the only changes will be that England doesnt have to take in a bunch of unknown and undesirable refugees and pay for them, AND I think there are some payments England would have to make to support the failed socialist members of the EU. Three cheers for the people of England who stood up to the establishment for once.

Brexit does not make Britain or the EU better or worse but it allows Britain to address their own issues and provides a wakeup call to the EU to do likewise. I have no confidence that either will.

Choosing rubble is an unconscious act of doubling down on more of the same things that caused the problem in the first place. If I thought that reason would prevail after Armageddon, I would say bring it on but I fear that after a reboot, we would build the same set of sandcastles on fault lines.

Yes, they do. That's why I'm kind of anxious to see what ammo they choose. We may live in interesting times.

What I might dream of is that Brexit is the initial roll of the snow ball on the mountain and that the momentum will increase, gathering more snow as it rolls to become an avalanche. But there are many with large cannons aimed and loaded against that small snow ball. The reveal of the ammo choices as those guns are fired should be interesting to watch. The game is not over yet.

As much as anything else talked about, I wonder how many can recognize how putative trade agreements (commerce regulation) are used to institute the gradual taking of local governance and a larger statism growth. And more, how many can relate the UK's situation vs. the EU with that of the states vs. the USA

    Good essay. Txs.
