According to the NRA, there are two million incidents a year in which a gun is either used or brandished in self-defense by law abiding citizens to protect themselves. Most of these incidents receive little or no publicity, although the NRA publicizes some of them. Cut that two million in half as propaganda if you don't like the NRA (I am a member) and you still have a million instances of self-defense, vastly outnumbering whatever is the highest number you can come up with for accidental gun injuries and deaths (the usual number is 20 to 30 thousand). Let's also keep in mind that the latest tragedy occured in California, which has some of the nation's strictest gun laws, and that Chicago, which has waged a war on legal gun ownership, is one of the most violent cities in America.
