Benghazi Again. Military refusing to cooperate with Congress for fear of reprisals.

Strange New World. The much feared Congressional Committees with all their powers are being stonewalled by the military they fund. The Military are quietly staing fear of reprisals as their excuse.

What's it all about Alfie?

All Congress has to do is issue subpoenas and that's to all manner of juicy targets of opportunity. Those in the news and those out of the news. ATC logs, Maintenance logs, Pilot assignment reports, The list is almost endless. Right down to the crew chiefs of aircraft in the indicated flights and wings. Personnel records officers. Who was assigned are they stil lthere? Where are they?
What's it all about besides Congressional political foot dragging and failure to do their job? It's all about politics. Truth got lost in the shuffle.

Military side? I have four stars and don't wish to lose the retirement pay. I have three stars and want four and stuff rolls down hill. What about willful failure to follow their oath of office?

Nope they serve the officers appointed over and their every waking breath is controlled not by the part that says serve the Constitution but by the part that says. feather thine own nest first and last.

Guaranteed the only one's at the top are careerists who only make waves upon command. Country and Constitution be damned.

    Very disappointing.
These military leaders should be a line of defense, for upholding the constitution. As a taxpayer I pay for the protection of the constitution.

You lost that money for sure. The next group will be much the same. Second Raters. Moochers. Careerists, Bureaucrats. But loyal to their current rabbi the point of violating their oath of office and nothing to show except a Nuremberg Defense.

Is all the military this disloyal? I doubt it. Some reason the Constitution will always be there ready to reinstate and after all are these civilians worth losing my retirement and putting my family in the poor house? Are they worth it. The argument within is oath of office vs. oath to my family . I see next to zero support from the nation who will doubtless piss it away at best.

That's the lower ranks. Enlisted and perhaps up to some field grade commissioned officers.

Are some ready to do their duty with a well thought out plan of action. Damn straight. It's locked in a safe. A perfect counter revolution and legal too!!!

      But for what gain?

Better to keep our powder dry ...for those deserving. They must exist somewhere? Shouldn't they? Don't they?

Sadly ---I agree with your reasoning and well described risk reward analysis. Sadly---- ,because I want our constitution to be adhered to.
With regards to the brain washed or brain dead majority who elect these con men ists.
        I See your point.
Close proximity to half the country on the dole
And many of them don't understand that an eagle can't soar with 3 left wings!
The need for educated citizens - requires 1st a desire to learn and a work ethic to read and reason. Some do exist but not enough in this era for sure.

What has changed since the 60s to 80s. Back then we wouldn't think of going to the press, didn't trust Congress, and had little respects for civilians in general. But this is unprecedented. If subpoened say as part of the air support group with access to flight records and so forth. It would go through the chain of command normally and the first thing we would do is report the incident and get legal aide from our own system. Not always perfect but preferable to going it alone.

Now Congress being too afraid to even use their actual powers is something to be ignored never mind pressure from above.

      Somebody's axe is being sharpened

At the same time we see anti oval office moves. In requests for pay roll increases, demands for equality in the draft and uniform changes all seemingly coming out of the military formations.

Something is out of kilter or maybe being re-kiltered.

i was aide to 3 & 4-star generals overseeing numerous projects...dealt with washington, d.c. crowd at the pentagon...had buddies who stayed in the service who were railroaded out for taking a stand...it is a total mess...Colin Powell brought some sanity, but then again he supported Obama...decisions were made in Vietnam about sending our troops into harm's way without the proper support...out of the 10 classmates out of my pilot training class...all 10 died...my instructor pilot was the first congressional medal of honor winner...my last commander was a 7 year pow...
after i got out, pure luck had me fly next to Henry Kissenger on a DC10 from L.A. to New York...the discussion was interesting to say the least...
everything i have are stories of what i saw, heard, and discussed...there were good people there, but too often the sleazebags and the politically correct moved up...the rest of us got out...the few that remained were set up and removed later...none of it is pretty...

Of course, we always suspect such things but rarely have the opportunity of hearing about it first hand. You just confirm what we always knew but didn't want to believe.

the upper echelons who were worth their weight stayed in until they could make retirement at full grade...then they were gone...

i was a poor boy from west virginia...just wanted to fly and the deal the Air Force offered ...one year of pilot training (worth $250K in 1970) in exchange for 6 years of service seemed like a good deal to me...by the time i retired i was making $250K/yr flying for American...with a 7 figure retirement check...used to be ashamed to be a hillbilly...now proud to be a mountaineer...

Proud to be a man of the mind. Someone who not only accomplished something, but found a way to accomplish something he wanted to do. You might be surprised at how many desire to do that and fail.

...and the current jobs seekers are not as fortunate...my older son graduated with a degree in architecture in 2008 as housing collapsed...not jobs...he ended up the enterprise and is rising nicely in that...just married and they bought a house..but he will never be employed in his chosen profession...

    "Country and Constitution be damned."
That pretty much sums it up, doesn't it? I have seen this attitude develop over the years, increasing incrementally until we are faced with people in Washington who are there to serve only themselves and the country be damned. We can hope for justice, but don't bet on it actually happening.
