Michelle Obama Would Like Students to Monitor Family Members for Racial Insensitivity

Caveat: I am not a racist in any way. I hire people from every nationality, religious belief (or not), race, etc.

This story scares the s*** out of me. Students reporting on their older family members, whether it is on racism or something else, is straight out of Hitler's Germany, the former Soviet Union, or Mao's China. Welcome to 1984. Orwell was right except for the timing.

I have heard my kids ask me in the car coming home from their grandparents about comments by their grandparents that certainly could have been construed as racially insensitive.

Jrbrenner, why did you feel the need to explain that you're not a racist and then give examples to prove it? This is part of the problem. Why should we have to state it and prove it? This is another of their tactics to control our behavior (ex: words we use, when we should speak up, who we should confront...) And you just fell into their trap. You feared someone might think you're a racists because you posted this article. Michelle's goal here is to keep people focused and feel emboldened to confront people, family, friends, to keep the rift alive that keeps them at the advantage because it silences so many. Too often people are afraid to discuss certain things because someone might think they're a racist, or call them a racist even if it isn't true so they just don't even bother trying to have the conversation. What MO really wants is the silence that in turn gives them the power via fear. People have a right to form their own opinions based on their life experiences and voice them. When MO happily announced that she could finally say she was proud to be an American (or proud of America...whatever the case may be) no one tried to silence her. But when people said they couldn't believe she actually said that, they were called racists. ???? And why is it that only white people can be racists? If you hate white people it's totally justified and accepted. Or was she suggesting black people should confront their families at the dinner table if someone tells a honky joke, or if their friends don't want to sit with the crackers at lunch, or they should stop calling their Mary Jane shoes "white girls".

the current administration is corrupt and they are gettin gaway with it. I read an article from 1979 Valerie Jarretts father wrote about Arab/Muslim influence and intent to get into America, Barry was not an 'out of nowhere' politician. They have an agenda and this is just another stage of it. This has been a long time coming, Americans (this century) are weak and naive - gullible and so vain that no one would dare ever do that to us. We've never had war on our land - it happens everywhere else but not America. We send our boys over to fight war, but we've not had to wake up to bombs and mortar. This can't happen to us! Guess what? It did.

What the hell is happening? You PM me and say you can't believe I called you a racist (oh no I did not!) And then you delete this post and your comments. Am I the only one lost here?

2014 is 30 years since 1984... 1984 was written in 1948, 36 years before the year 1984. And 2020 will be 36 years since the year 1984.

Wouldn't being racially sensitive be racist? I would think the racially insensitive would result in one treated everyone as equal, regardless of race...
