    Here is another one: The work of Gilbert, Oersted, and Ampere culminated in the experiments of Faraday and in Maxwell's integration of all of it in the field equations of his unified theory of electricity and magnetism that we depend on every day in modern civilization.     I had the time for this because I spend at least two hours a day commuting on public transportation. Last month, I read Galileo's "Two New Sciences." After this, I have three essays by Copernicus. These are among the books that everyone "knows" but no one actually reads. "The Origin of Species" is another.
