    As I understand, the FCC got its start because broadcast radio, and then broadcast tv were reliant upon limited frequency bandwidths. Under what authority do they take upon themselves to regulate the internet? If I don't like Cox Communications' transmission policies... I can run my own lines.

    We seriously need an alternative to the internet.

      The FCC sees their authority regarding the Internet as a result of the Internet having been developed via "government-funded" R&D, particularly through DARPA. DrZarkov99 probably can add something valuable here.
