I really like Kasich in his past roles, he seemed to stand for the right things. I was amazed at how, almost immediately, when he came on as governor, it was like another person. He throws his support behind liberal ideas at every turn. Whether is is welfare spending, Medicaid increases, Common Core, he is right there supporting it. I kept hoping they would move toward insuring property rights at the state level, but it is not happening. As the Columbus mayor runs rampant with building and moving people, esp. low income, into the inner city, the legislators just seem to go along to get along. They set up large inner city apartments, which then got trashed, and are still referred to as great ideas over there. The local governments are having trouble getting tax dollars back from the state level, have met with Kasich, but only lip service results. We are sorely disappointed in what we felt was a promising chance to move in the right direction when he took office..
Tell me about how John Kasich has fared as governor. As a US congressman, he did a great job at keeping the budget in check. He was pretty good when he worked for Fox News, too, but I had heard vaguely from afar that he has drifted left as governor, although not nearly as much as Jeb Bush did after he finished his term as governor. Jeb was a pretty solid governor and definitely better than the other Bushes (neither of whom did I have the stomach to vote for), but I definitely couldn't vote for Jeb anymore.
We can certainly agree on that. Although he was no politician, I have always envisioned most politicians as being like Jabba the Hut from the Star Wars movies. Obese beyond the ability to move with serious power and control issues sufficient to put the rest of us in chains so as to establish their own fiefdoms.
There is some benefit to the ROI measure for state spending of tax money. The problem with those doing the assessment is that some of them think that there is such a thing as "good government spending". Some road construction is necessary at the state level, but not much else. I would guess that probably 90% of all government spending is what I would consider inappropriate. Most of the rest is either military or protecting borders, and that is largely overdone, too. And before people get on me about illegal aliens getting into this country because we are not doing enough to protect our borders, a nice electrified fence and/or moat, along with just enough poisonous snakes or perhaps piranha would do the job on the border.
Oh, I don't know. If I have to send it in, I'd at least like to know if I'm actually getting what was promised or if it's merely going to line some politicians and unions pockets.
I am pretty sure I don't agree with the premise of ROI for state spending of tax money. Some of the criteria are things that government can't control (such as housing price volatility). Others include items that government should have no business being involved with.
Hello to another Ohioan. I think our problem are the big cities, which did go heavily BO. Even Kaisch looks pretty liberal at times. I was talking to someone in the State Legislature, and asked if they were going to work on legislation to protect property rights, and he said they had to move slowly and quietly, as not to set off the Democrats and unions. The mayor of Columbus never met a social program he did not love, and is doing his part for Agenda 21. Our rural area is conservative, although the head of the Republican party announced he wanted to see more moderate candidates, and fewer conservative and Tea Party types. In other words we have been hijacked by go along to get along politicians going forward. The roads in this area are TERRIBLE! We have drugs problems, and the heavy costs associated with that. Mike DeWine, as Atty. Genera, is more worried about getting the small salary of an out of office Sheriff back for the county (at what cost), than he is about curbing the heavy drug traffic going through the county.
you're in Alaska? oh WoW!!! wife and I were there on vacation in 09 and we are still talking about the grandeur, the majesty, the ingenuity, the persistence, the sheer guts of the place and its fine people. HoooRaaay!!! -- j
Second from the top in Tax Rate, and really in the bottom 25% of the government services way overpaid for those services...
At least our legislators are getting some benefit from our taxes, as we sure as hell feel left out.
What I'd love to see is if we were split in half - separating "Jefferson" from California... I suspect we would get both a change of color AND a lot better balance of spend VS government. Maybe not as good as Wyoming, but it's a goal to shoot for...

I didn't look at all the research method, but I'm not sure that this is only federal taxes and federal programs, but included state taxes and programs as well.
This is one area where the nation-wide calls for getting rid of California fall flat. We pay a lot and get very little in return from the Feds. I agree with Susanne that the State of Jefferson is worthy of discussion. I love that region, too...
I was wondering the same thing. It must be based on presidential election totals, as our Gov is R, the senators are split, and the congressional delegation is 5R to 3D. I looked through the methodology but couldn't find how the designation was made.

And some Johnny Horton just because.
