On Tax Day, what if Atlas shrugged and there was nothing for the IRS to loot? Atlas is shrugging!

Ayn was correct when she pointed out that taxes must be voluntary. If they are not there is no process to avoid unrelenting increases in taxation, which by the way is higher than 40%. Take the amount of money in circulation and divide it into the total of the budget, then add sales taxes, state income taxes, property taxes and it will be close to 80%. The only 'vote' that really counts is the ability to not support the tyranny that is killing you. Taxation is extortion and always has been. The ability to threaten you with extinction if you do not surrender your property.

we had to move it so that they could take it. . 13 percent
of our income. . I despise the way that they spend
    about 7/8 of it. -- j

    Hello DrEdwardHudgins,
I suspect the looters would put a lean on every bank account and an armed guard at every bank before the day was over. A run on the banks would be quashed by virtue of a maximum withdrawal edict. We would become Greece. The inevitable crash would only be postponed. It will happen eventually regardless because of the reasons you stated. Atlas is shrugging. The true mystery is how it has been avoided so far, considering our debt.
    Respectfully,
    O.A.

we have arranged to have only about ten percent
withheld, so ours is an unusual case. . coordinated
taxpayer revolt would indeed be difficult. -- j

The problem lies in numbers, if only a feew hundred do it, then you jail them all. The key thing is they already have your money, called "withholding". You cannot do no withholding, so they have a way to ensure compliance, tax forms are just your attempt to try to weasel your own money back.

Un suc cessfull is as far I'll go speak well of the dead for the lessons they leave are lost on the dreary and cawing crow as the scavengers arrive to pick at remains for a last juiceless morsel. The raven observes Nevermore? Nay harbinger for some and for many. Always one willing carcass to be picked and plundered Evermore Evermore.

74 mile round trip and the fuel comes from six states away so I'll borrow my neighbors horse if I knew how to ride and my other neighbor s shot gun to prevent hold ups. Or better yet just walk outside of town five miles and set up an ambush...if they have what I want or need, Wow just for yeast to make bread? 50% non-survival rate....guaranteed. That's only for the people willing to actually work. The moochers all die or become slaves - sounds good to me...but I do know how to do all that...

Does that include the loss of buying power also known as the involuntary tax? Let's see reduce the value by 30% to 70% so your really at 35% way to go!!!

It would likely cause instant totalitarianism.
They would shout, "Think of the children. Think of the elderly." Better yet, don't think at all.

Voluntary? LMAO it's forced confiscation. the way to combat it is reduce your labor...at least that which is in view. Government pretends to pay us we pretend to pay taxes.

    The professional looters would riot.
Unfortunately, that would be half of the population.

Occasionally on some of the more obscure CSPAN panels you will hear someone mention that US income tax voluntary compliance is right on the edge of what the IRS can handle... easy to tip into a real revenue problem for the US government. Not sure if the State governments with income taxes are in the same condition as they have other significant sources of revenue.

A good first step would be to end withholding of income and payroll taxes and have everyone have to file quarterly estimated taxes as the self employed do. Also end the sales tax and have everyone have to file a Use Tax. Time the government did it's own dirty work instead of coercing private businesses to do it for them.

Unfortunately, the first impulse of the looters, driven by their rage, would be to institute a "wealth tax" to seize assets when income is no longer available. After all, by what right do the wealthy just stop producing and selfishly keep their wealth while others starve? Homes, bank accounts, shares of stock all would be up for grabs in the "emergency" confiscation that would ensue.

Just hype up the same thing they do anyway and falsify their rejection rate of your deductions. Built in way to up the income without openly raising taxes.

Otherwise they would just ignore it .
