While we are talking about ransomeware, I found this and thought I would share it with all of you. Flash is in a head to head competition with MS software for vulnerability king, but this one means you may want to take action and update.

You had me scared for a minute - I could not find Adobe Flash Player on my computer. Then I realized that's a good thing. This Ubuntu Linux don't need no stinkin' Flash Player. ;-)

How does it handle a lot of the videos and such? It would seem a lot of web content would not be available?

Ubuntu is a GUI version of Linux that has a lot of the look and feel of Apple and Windows. That said, it does not seem to be bothered by audio and video issues - I did not (and still do not) know exactly how it plays videos, it just does.

There are some things I can't figure out (how to get my scanner to dump to this computer), so I keep a W97 computer close by. When I scan, I copy the result to a thumb drive and then to this computer, for example. I am far from a computer expert. I see windows having so many vulnerabilities that I decided to try this.

You can install Ubuntu and have a dual boot set up or you can run Ubuntu from a thumb drive if you like. I did that at first, but this computer no longer has windows on it.

Thanks for the warning. I uninstalled Flash about a year ago, but my husband still has it. Just got him to update. Flash is a miserable excuse which comes with all kinds of other programs unless you uncheck them. I have little trouble without it, once in a while on YouTube or rarely but sometimes on Amazon. I figure, if they want it viewed, they will get with the program, or I can do without whatever is there.

It will go away soon, simply because it is so vulnerable. Either a better way will exist, or you will have something where you have to download the contents to view, which may end up being as bad.

I would be very happy if web-weenies would stop using Flash. This is the most unreliable, buggy, vulnerable software in history, that has maintained a leadership role. Users will put up with anything.

Flash is one of the biggest attack vectors today. I would uninstall it as HTML5 and other tech make it obsolete unless you need it for custom legacy app.

Actually, on DSL, it is about 2 mins, I have been having trouble getting my wifes computer to download the latest flash version last weekend, so it may be something on their end. The other thing is if you use Firefox, it starts blocking it within 24 hours and makes you force it to use a known bad version, by having to click "enable" on everything that uses it, which is a lot. MS says they will be flashless with their Edge browser in their upcoming version.
