    While the suggestion is true the Guardian is not a viable (word of the week) source for much of anything....

    The use of public domain air waves has been controlled since 1933 those transmitted by wire were recently added if it can be show a part of the conversation AND records pertaining originated, terminated or transmitted through another country or 'left the the country. Satellites communication ring a bill?

    Advertising! ever notice the crap that comes to you and you didn't subscribe to!
    Hat's off to advertisers but I still despise it, it's a waist of my time...never benefited from it and neither did they from me.

    I do not assume phone records, which are detailed accounts of people's lives, are private for this reason: Historically there was no expectation of privacy in public. It was impractical for the gov't to follow someone around all day and watch everything he does. It is practical now because of technology, but the courts and society have not decided how to deal with this. We have not decided if things we do in public are actually private when it comes to mass analysis of phone data.
