Why did Gov. Brown say “Economically, minimum wages may not make sense” but still support them?

There is a correlation between the declining value of the dollar the stock market and rising minimum wage. The issue is which is cause and which is effect? It is a government policy to continue to devalue the dollar so debt can be paid with cheaper currency. Politicians argue for a minimum wage to address a problem that they themselves created.

I want $15 an hour for being retired. By the way, a retired person's hours are 24/7 and I demand to be paid by who I pay taxes to.
That would be you though, our leftist "elite betters" do not think that way.
I know my demand makes no sense economically, especially with a $19 trillion national debt.
Hey, I'm just trying to pursue my happiness here.
    Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!

If $15 is more of a living wage and the leftists say it will improve the economy, then $25/hr should give the masses even more money to spend and improve the economy MORE. The flaw is that there will be fewer workers actually being employed unless workers improve their efficiencies and skills to be worth the extra money. But, there is also competition from foreign workers and automation - both of which compete at less than the current minimum wage ( which is why so much manufacturing has left the US, and why the influx of illegal aliens has been so great. We hire the illegal aliens because they work harder and send work to China because they work cheaper

Just did the $15 and hour 24/7 math.
I think its well worth You The People paying me $131,040 a year to watch Netflix movies, piddle around with my PC, grow a few vegetables and do anything I want.
Is that really so much compared to the $20 trillion national debt we will have when King Barry passes his royal scepter over to Benghazi Billary or to Bolshevik Bernie?
Heck, the debt will only be $40 trillion before the next commie clown comes around.
Hey, I got to pay my taxes too. Don't that make my retirement income better?
        Power to the people!

This part of the article struck me as deliberate on the part of Progressives:

"Minimum wages not only cause businesses to cut back on the number of workers or worker hours and perhaps go to robots. It deprives young people of the opportunity to learn the personal workplace habits they will need to get better-paying jobs in the future. And the vast majority of minimum wage workers are not single heads of families. They are students, part-time workers, and the like."

Millenials today would be very insulted to have to be a burger flipper because they have had their egos stroked so much that they believe that they are better than menial labor or entry level work. They believe they should start in management or higher. So why not just eliminate the jobs and start these rubes on the pathway to full time government dependence and guaranteed socialist voters who will gladly turn over more power to the government officials. Unfortunately, before they find that road leads to a dead end, the government will have destroyed our economy.

Minimum wages inherently discriminate in favor of Big Business and Big Labor--and against inexperienced or, more to the point, non-union workers. And the Big Boys want it that way. This is what Nathaniel Branden meant when he said Rand's ideas for capitalism would be far too radical for them to support.

Big Business wanted the FDA to take over regulation of medical devices in 1976. Their intention was to make the introduction of new products too difficult and expensive for small companies to undertake. i know, because I was one of those small companies who just got in under the wire, but couldnt survive in the long run because we couldnt afford to come out with new products under the regulations. I shrugged, sold my company, and got out of medical devices.

Maybe its time to look at the leftist ideology more as it is- power hungry and evil. These people are like honey badgers- they dont give a sh$% about the negative consequences of their programs and actually welcome them as opportunities to expand the programs and ask for MORE money.

The back side of all of this is the need for more cash to buy goods...economic leap frog- raise pay, then the costs of goods goes up...then we need another raise that will inevitable raise the cost of goods once again.
I remember as a teenager going to the drive in movie with my date, grabbing a bite to eat after and filling the gas tank...all on a $5.00 bill...now days it would cost you better than $30.00 to do the same.

It's called debt repudiation preceded by devaluation and inflation. Nothing new nor remarkable about that Round Two of the Obama version is coming up.

After Mr. Andy Puzder's comment, there's really nothing more to say. The controlling of minimum wage by the state is more detrimental to the cause it aspires to assuage than any other form of interference.

Because of the altruist morality. Ayn Rand re-
marked about it before. From what I understood of
her theory, people who believe that altruism is
good and self-interest is evil, are going to believe
that the pursuit of one's own good in a free-enter-
prise system is somehow evil, and therefore
somehow will not want to accept free enterprise.
For how can good come out of evil?--
To combat this, it is necessary to combat al-
    truism per se.

For progressives, it's all about feeling good, whether it has a positive or negative result, doesn't matter. Pathetic, when you consider Oklahoma, which doesn't have a mandated minimum wage, has a beginning hourly rate of $13/hr for quick store cashiers. Create a healthy business climate, and the demand for labor will drive wages up.

I have thought for awhile that the liberals should be honest about this $15/hr wage and tell us that what they want is to eliminate ALL jobs in this country that arent worth $15/hr at the present time. The only jobs that will remain are the ones that are worth $15/hour.
That means, by the way, that we need to lay off our 5 manufacturing assemblers and buy the goods from china instead. I GOT the message, and we are taking steps to do just that now.

That will do nothing but enable a communist system to remain viable, while the capitalist system is gutted. What a choice.

yeah, I know. It sucks that its a communist regime that is more capitalist oriented than our "capitalist system". We will try to automate, but I dont know if we can do it fast enough to avoid just going out of business

Some not all but some union contracts are based on minimum wage. It goes up there's does too. Byt he same percentage of increase. That means everything costs more as that applied to a lot of delivery and transport workers. For the store owner ...he just raised prices across the board. to cover the extra costs.

for the average worker it meant the after tax increases was next to nothing but the costs still went up.

For the Davis Bacon Act local apparent wage scammers it meant a huge increase followed by a small donation to some PAC but that's because DBA local prevailing wage runs higher than the local highest wage. but only special people get that increase.

Keep voting for the left...the scammers love you.

Not only private unions, but I understand that State workers are in for a big windfall. I live in Sacramento and I am hearing from my marginally productive state-employee friends that many are reveling in the upcoming pay-raise feeding frenzy.
