Tenth Amendment need to be taken seriously. The fedgov overreach has overflowed into a global takeover of American soil for foreign interests. The parasites called politicians, not all but too many to be health for this nation, need to be reminded of who they work for.
I think it is past time these states take control of their lands. The Feds. only turn it over to the UN, or allow politicians access. Do we really need more of our US land declared UN Heritage Sites, with access limited? Do we really need hundreds of acres of buffer zone via taken private property for these sites. It's past time to stop this nonsense..
I don't think any land should be a UN heritage site. We are not citizens of the U.N. The U.N. should have no control real or implied over U.S. territory.
Completely agree! Hope the voters remember this got under full steam under the Clintons. We have been to the Grand Canyon, before and after the designation. Before, it was a natural at your own pace enjoyment, now it is herd mentality and control. We were at Glacier Natl. Park, MT as they were just getting ready to put up signs with the designation. The thought of a bunch of commies taking over our beautiful lands makes me sick.
No part of the Constitution is sacrosanct to the Obama regime. It has been trashed, smashed, squeezed and expanded in order to suit their agendas. As far as those in power in Washington is concerned, the document might not as well exist. So far, almost every article and especially the 1st 10 amendments have either been distorted or discarded.
The feds only "own" such lands by virtue of possessing the biggest guns. There is no Constitutional authority for such "ownership" - Art I Sec 8 provides for post roads, post offices, arsenals and other 'needful buildings'; Art IV, Sec 3 gives Congress authority over 'Territory or other Property belonging to the United States' - but such territory or other property historically becomes part of the State formed from those lands.
There's no legality or words in the Constitution that will make the Feds turn over control of not only the land, but more - the resources on and under that land. The BLM was a part of Roosevelt's replacement of Constitutional governance with socialist and bureaucratic technocrat government accomplished in the 30's. It was sold to westerner's as the government's way of helping out the small ranchers in management and maintenance of open range and undesignated lands as well as a fight against the corruption of many western state legislators and cronies.
Now it's just become another way for the Feds to suck money out of state coffers and pass gratuities to Congress's pals. I just doubt that the states have any oomph left in them to counter the Feds.
Unfortunately, though my heart is very much with the states, and in theory, yes this land should all go back to the States, I see some realistic issues. And we do, after all live, in the real world. The states actually did cede these lands to the federal government as blackmail for becoming states, so that will muddy the legal waters. Then, and maybe this is hypocritical, but I, for one, am not quite willing to give up all the national parks, which i think is a natural consequence of this line of thinking. Those parks are amazing pieces of natural heritage, but as in all things governmental, it has gone too far with all the conservation reserves and preserves and the national forests and all these quasi-eminent domain takings.
Thanks for posting this, freedomforall ! It's high time for the West to own their own land as per the Equal Footings Clause with the East. Someone once wrote: "Without land man is nothing." Of course, so let us support those willing to work towards this goal.
Of course the reporter said this... good anti-gun pro-leftist propoganda sure to sell ad time to other leftist liberal corporations.
I have 2 thoughts on this... one, do you really think the dotgov would *allow* the states to take over what they consider to be their soverign property? And two, what would ol' Harry Reid say about diminishing his empirical stake in Nevada? After all, all that Federal land there (and everywhere else) he considers as his. And NV, being mostly Federal land, well... Pretty easy to connect the dots when they glow so brilliantly...
The fact that they're even discussing it has to make him quake. He's trying to make a rancher out to be the antichrist or something in the hopes the State won't turn against him. blecht! I hope it turns into more than just talks. It needs to be stopped and should have been stopped a looooong time ago. State land should be run by the States. What's the point of having States?
A friend of mine, a Vietnam Marine, just purchased a Fully Automatic CO2 powered rifle of some sort. I think it shoots BB's. That might be considered a low power machine gun.
