Hey, come on, what's the big deal?
They're just doing it to be consistent.
I'm sure next week they're going to ask the schoolkids to monitor their parents.

Even in context, it sounds bad coming from the gov't. But I agree with the tenor of it. People move to a foreign country and keep their networks and values from their old country. The kids, though, are caught between too worlds. They're in a perfect position for extremists to target them. As Eboo Patel says in Acts of Faith, their churches feature youth programs prominently in the newsletter but not the budget. He says churches need help kids find their identity when their parents move, so they don't adopt extremists' views.

This is not saying parents should rat out their kids. It's saying to remember that kids don't have all the experiences their parents' generation have and to be mindful that there are people offering them an extremist view of the world. We need to take the time to show our kids a pluralistic reason-based world view.
