Give me Liberty or give me death!

On a recent podcast by Kris Ann Hall she read Patrick Henry's famous "Give me Liberty or give me death speech". March 23rd was the anniversary of that speech. I looked up the transcript and in reading realized how amazing and brave these people were. A speech like that today would send college students to their "safe spaces" and cause the establishment media to insist he tone down his rhetoric. Here is one excerpt:
If we wish to be free -- if we mean to preserve inviolate those inestimable privileges for which we have been so long contending -- if we mean not basely to abandon the noble struggle in which we have been so long engaged, and which we have pledged ourselves never to abandon until the glorious object of our contest shall be obtained, we must fight! I repeat it, sir, we must fight! An appeal to arms and to the God of Hosts is all that is left us!

Seems we've entered a similar circumstance 220 years later...our jailers, our self assumed masters have not relented to reason, to nature nor the self evident observations of our forefathers...
Do we have at our discretion a means today inwhich to win the light of day once again? Can we do it peacefully...I hasten to think.

    What a speech!
I doubt if there is a politician alive today who could even come close, let alone just rattle it off the top of his head. I almost wanted to jump up and join the Colonial Army.

Kris Ann Hall read it on her podcast. I had heard a couple quotes before but not the entire speech. Give you chills.

Chills, indeed. I had read it many years ago, and it affected me then. I keep a file of inspirational writings that I read something from when I'm feeling a bit battered and bruised. This is going into that file. Thanks, Rich for bringing it back to my attention.

They didn't know that they would win, it would work, and it would become a model for other countries of the world. It very easily could have been similar to the American Civil War. They were taking a big risk.

The fact that they spoke out knowing it could lead to their arrest or worse is amazing. I'm sometimes concerned I'll be audited or something like that. These men were truly courageous.

"There are four boxes to be used in the defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury and ammo. Please use in that order." Excellent use of the first.

Our country has strayed far from our roots. If we paid in cash for what the government demands in taxes, there would be incentive to diminish it's control. As it is, we are frogs in a kettle that is beginning to boil. Our escape continues to elude us, sadly.

Excellent points. I am somewhat encouraged by the anger voters are showing in this primary but some of it is clearly misplaced. I hope it gets focused on this huge out of control government but I'm not very confident right now.
