Complete nonsense of the most alarmist kind. There is no significant shortage of food in the Pacific Ocean. You may sure you are reading alarmist propaganda when it says 100% died. There is no way of verifying 100% of a wild population.

True but I can tell you don't fish for a living. Furthermore a great deal of the oceans are watery deserts and do not support food chains. It all starts with little bitty micro organisms and plankton etc. The fish stocks generally migrate in patterns. Discover the route and set up a blockade so to speak. The drift nets are the worst. predators in the ocean but simply slowing down sports fisherman or Indian smoke houses in one country is only 'feel good' Also allowing pests like harbor seals to overpopulate and get all weep y about their death is the stuff of city dwellers. Most of whom wouldn't know a Rocky Mountain Oyster from a hole in the ocean.

Don't forget natural cycles in the order of things, Warm and cold current trends combined with radiation from Japan, from the sun and the cosmos due to our weakened shields in the grand solar minimum we have entered. There is likely previously unknown cycles we have yet to consider also, like perhaps the cycles of govern(mental) intrusions?!?!
I can state one thing most assertively...it has nothing to do with your footprints, your SUV's nor your exhales.

Having lived there for some time I would look for natural causes first such as over population and then man made causes such as shortage of natural food supplies. The rape of the salmon population in all parts of it's four year Pacific Ocean circling cycle cannot be stopped by the efforts of one country nor one country that allows foreign fishing boats to catch what they will NOR some of the dirty tricks pulled on our population as well as the fish by such entities as the US Government and Tyson's to name one.

Some years ago the Fed decided to cut down on our fishing industry by limiting licenses. They bought out a high number of trollers and trawlers. (long line and net boats). Put the former US crews into various retraining programs. THEN decided to sell the boats to the Russians ostensibly for use off their coasts. The buy out and the sale was subsidized by guess who? The buy out and the US Taxpayer.

The new Russian boats didn't go to the western Pacific instead they fished off our shores and guess who bought the fish, provided dock space in Seattle and installed new fish processing plants (Fife Washington.)

The same lack of care has brought down the crabbing industry as well.

You want to know who starves the seal pups? Look no further than Washington DC but also look at the seals themselves. Harbor Seal are considered pests that strip their local areas of food and take over not only water but the dock spaces.

    Is it true?
Or, is it environmental wacko reporting?
How are we to know? If true, how does it matter? What are the true causes? Is Man involved? Is it significant, or is it Chicken Little telling us that the sky is falling?

Herb, I spent 20 years on submarines, marching about the ocean, mainly the North Pacific. I had a special Oceanographic monitor, and we spent several patrols in the 90's gathering tones of data. The overall impression we saw was each year saw a different structure, one year a deep warm layer, the next a cold one. Each change will cause a movement of the plankton and the fish, which the seals eat. The last 2 winters had seen a warming up the coast, which also moves the food supply. The seals tend to get attached to a specific spot because people feed them, in addition to the natural food, so they seem to have not woken up tot he fact dinner is somewhere else. I am still unconvinced man made global warming exists, I do agree climate change is happening, has happened, and will continue. Animals must adapt or die, which the sheeple never saw, as watching National Geographic was considered bad, as they showed violence and other distasteful subjects. There are much greater man made issues with oceans such as the great Pacific garbage patch, that none of these liberated sad sacks ever want to do anything to address. If it can't be legislated and manipulated (such a Obamanations BS CO2 crap), then they don't want to know about it.They are just a bunch of insincere whiners crying because the world changes, and Hillary didn't say it could.

Thanks. There's nothing better than ist hand information/observation. So you were a sub-mariner. One of my best friends was also. He now lives in Arizona. He's been out for many years and used to beat my butt at racquetball. It sure takes a special person to work submarines. I couldn't do it.

we are fighting change, even natural change, like the
earth is supposed to be the same forever. . the earth
may just be telling us that we're making buggy whips,
and change is inevitable, constant, perennial !

I recorded an expose a little while ago about that pacific
garbage patch -- the size of 3 indianas, if memory serves.
it's amazing that we have such an awful collection of
        flotsam out there. -- j

Lots of stuff could be addressed, and should be, but the manipulation so intertwined by the political class has poisoned and concern most people have. They have no trust someone is telling the truth of an issue, so they never move to a solution. They just wait for the idiots in DC to announce what they will do. Too bad 90% of what they announce has a special interest donation attached and pushing it. The corrupt clowns need to wake up to this little detail.

You will be interested to note I just posted an editorial from IBD where they basically call out the whole global warming thing for what it is: fraud. They also quoted the UN weinie who basically says it is an excuse to redistribute wealth through allowing third world countries free rein (because they need it) and mainstream countries under draconian restrictions (because they need it too). After all, someone has to pay...

I believe the website you're referring to is about as truthful as The Onion... Satire?

Yes, it's an eco-hysteria site. Like the onion except it's unintentional self-satire on what they believe. Here's another one from the home page:

"Cemetery full of dead babies missing brains next to US nuclear site — Funeral Director: Almost all infants we have died the same way… 'that’s pretty much all I see on death certificates' — Few miles from 'most contaminated place in hemisphere' — 'One of largest documented anencephaly clusters in US history'

The early ecology movement of the 19th century started with the same envirochondria. The back-to-the-landers, anti-industrial revolution were petrified of "erosion". They believed that land was washing into the sea. Now it's zombi seals.

Probably. The way it reads certainly seems to indicate that, but this is meat and potatoes to the sheeple, they actually will start protests and want laws based on this stuff. Accurate? About as accurate as saying the tornadoes in OK today were directly cause by CO2. Lack of facts and logical investigation have never stopped people who want their worldview rammed down our throats.

If true (and I do have some doubts) this is natures way of resetting the balance. It has happened many times, and will continue to happen in the future. When a species gets smaller, then the species that depends on that specie for food will get smaller to allow the first specie to get larger, and on it goes.

Cute article, but one of the most information-free, adrenaline- and fear-provoking ones I've seen in a while. Thanks for the example.

Totally worry-provoking with no Critical Thinking layer to even hint at curiosity about WHYTF it happened, let alone the myriad possible causes!

Junk food for eco-cultists and anti-human believers.

Notice, all you see is the damage report, and the implication it was of course a Global Warming disaster. Crap like this is why we have not been able to get to a factual, data based approach to any issue. Why use facts when you can just make up emotional hot button statements?

They are indeed, I had them come up on the bow and stern of the submarine, and we had to go try to shoo them off, which rarely worked. This is probably a local issue, and no one ever mentioned the fact that they have extremely limited the fresh water drainage into the Bay area for a couple years now, due tot he drought, yet it may be a prime reason. Facts are non existent in that web page beyond a casualty count.
