I remember watching AR on the Tomorrow Show (Tom Snyder) and Phil Donahue Show in the mid 70's. I was early 20's and married. I had just read a book titled The Big Buck and the New Business Breed. From the library-we were married at 19 and I was making about $3.00 per hour. Not every single teaching moment is an epiphany but given the time and the receptive brain, this book changed my life-or further motivated me. I desperately wanted to succeed in a business, couldn't afford college, and needed validation that I could succeed without a college education. I recently found the book on e-bay. I just had to read it again. The book, the receptive mind and then seeing AR actually speaking to this point was life changing. I cannot believe I didn't read AS until I was 58. And I thought THAT changed my life. At 58.....I can't wait for the next 30 years or more. To the point, I really don't want my heart surgeon or a structural engineer to be self taught the way I was, but obviously there is a need for structured curriculum and for the self educated. We recently attended a concert at our local, private university. A lot of old brick and ivy. It could be east coast if it wasn't central Illinois. I think the current rate is about $30,000 per year. During the concert there was a student show from the art department. One of the "pieces" of art was a torn end of a cardboard box and some forgotten message written in blue crayon.......If Atlas isn't puking I hope the kids parents are.....
I recently heard -the last large bastion of communism is the US Universities. I don't want to be a grumpy old man but when parents (usually) are spending over $120,000 to watch their kids major in dance, middle eastern art, gender studies, Hate America, The religion of the Environment........ and to think we are just getting our butts kicked in engineering and science just angers me to the core. And as usual AR was 40 years ahead of her time.

Certainly not in the universities...except for Hillsdale and Prager U...I'm sure there are others.
Just as there are those that inspite of things today still manage to create value.

Wish I'd been more aware, more awake back then, yes I was young but maybe I could of been part of the solution, I feel as though my work now will have little effect in our time...always a day late and a dollar short.

The part I didn't realize is that Ayn too, saw that the people of America in general, as we've been allowed are to good natured and our heart strings, because of out successes, are easily pulled.
How do we persevere in the future that good nature and rational self interests.
I've always felt that it was always in mankind's self interest to create values for self and therefore others. Seems to be a natural consequence of value creation.

This woman is still a national treasure! Unfortunately the idiots running our "esteemed" institutions of "Higher Learning" are exactly the opposite of her and it is they, who are the keepers of the thought processes of youth today. Is it any wonder that the country has turned into a 3rd world laughing stock. How else could we get the clowns that are making decisions in our name. Time to throw the yoke of institutionalized ignorance off!

These days I would not be surprised for hearing that Climate Change 101 or even Political Correctness 101 became required freshman classes in some colleges.
