fourteen airmen are under investigation for allegedly using cocaine. Last year, three launch officers, known as missileers, pleaded guilty to using ecstasy after an investigation into illegal drug possession uncovered roughly 100 officers involved in a cheating scandal.

I'm still looking for the part that ties the first paragraph to the headline. I see investigation, I see three three admissions of guilt I see nothing about 14 .....

In the 1970s 50 soldiers in one company were charged with smoking pot. One individual had struck a deal by agreeing to name names of users. He provided 50 names.

The statement specified a time and location.

One of the accused looked at the Commanding Officer and said "I know where I was at the time and have the best witness possible along with six or seven others"

"They were all sitting for a military drivers license examination test. You may recall it Sir. You passed by one point in that same group."

As it turned out the list was phony but it didn't stop threats of loss of promotion, demotion, and ruined careers.

three is not fourteen three is too much but then...this is the same military whose officers routinely violate their oaths of office and routinely find lower ranking scapegoats.

Thje article is worthy of publication in the guardian but hardly credible based on the difference between the headline and the first paragraph.

Reminds me of the old system innocent until proven guilty replaced by rush to judgement and probable cause replaced by suspicion of....It's a not brave new world.
