Clarke is pretty awesome. Having lived in Milwaukee I would take his as Mayor or Police chief any day. While Milwaukee is currently on the ropes its far from over. Thing is the current mayor couldn't find his ass with both hands. His big re-election strategy last time around was to keep reminding folks he got his ass kicked by an unmedicated crazy guy at the fair. He is at his best only a shining example of a second-hander. Meanwhile the aldermen are full fledged looters. Getting a Mayor in place with some brains, moral character and the strength to stand up and be heard would do the city a world of good. Especially since it has a few very good things going for it. Milwaukee is essentially the northern most suburb of Chicago. A lot of traders, lawyers and others who work in the loop live in a Condo in Milwaukee. This is because the cost per square foot is way lower, and the train is fairly dependable. So, the city should stop fighting its proximity to Chicago and really embrace it. Milwaukee is sitting right next to Lake Michigan. They folks who try to sell Milwaukee try to make it look like Michigan is a great place to go water ski. Screw that, what they should be doing is pointing out that a quarterly water bill for a single family home is around 40$.. I think I peaked out at 60$ once.. This is good for homes, but amazing for say a water cooled data center.. Which brings the next thing.. Milwaukee is sitting on a ton of connectivity. Getting oc level connectivity to feed a data center is amazingly easy in Milwaukee. Finding Network guys who speak BGP and Telco is also pretty easy in Milwaukee. Milwaukee's got fairly above average network folks as well.. Milwaukee is where peering and connectivity SLA's were invented.. I have been thinking about this a lot lately.. We are just over a year out from moving back to MKE..

Sheriff David Clarke - A shining star in MKE. Contemplating running for mayor. As a black man he has a shot. As a conservative, probably not. But if he were able to win, he's the best chance that MKE might turn around. While not as large, nor as physically run down as Detroit, the poverty level of the city itself is the worst in the nation - and the education situation is almost as bad.

Sounds like MKE needs concealed carry.

We just recently, about 2 years ago, got concealed carry. All the libs screamed that it was going to become like the shootout at the OK corral. We just recently had a janitor in a building get attacked in the middle of the day by 3 thugs with a baseball bat. He was legally carrying and killed 2 of them. The police (not sheriff - Clarke was adamantly against it) put him in jail overnight and the DA seriously considered charging him with 1st degree murder! Finally announced yesterday (about 2 weeks after the incident) that they have decided not to charge the janitor with anything. But his gun will likely be held indefinitely.
