State Bill To Choose State Fossil Put On Ice Over God

Mammoth teeth were discovered in SC in 1725. Only 7 states do not have a state fossil. The bill was tabled because a proposed amendment was to include that mammoths were created by God and on the 6th day.
Now, although I think legislators have more important work to undertake, I generally don't want to see them pass more laws but work on repealing a bunch, this takes the cake for me.

    They'll do anything except tackle the real issues at hand: stopping kommon kore, denying Ovomitkare, lowering their taxes by (gasp) bringing in Producers instead of relying on mexico & china, thus in the process, lower the crime rate because the people have something to do.

    No, I think it's very clear that the 14th Amendment was absolutely intended, among other things, to extend the federal seperation of church and government to the states as well.

    Who said anything about all laws? I was talking about a constitutional limitation on government.

    And yes, the 14th Amendment did absolutely impose limitations on state governments which previously had only applied to the federal government. The separation of church and state was one of those limitations.

    Not at all. The equal protection clause is always misinterpreted. All it means is that all citizens must be held accountable to the laws equally, NOT that all laws in the several states must be the same. Otherwise, there would be no reason for states.

    The 14th Amendment expanded that prohibition to the state governments as well.

    The fact that there are those other "official" items again just shows that these legislatures are non productive.
    Only the federal gov't is prohibited from establishing an official religion.

    1) There are official state birds and official state flowers. I don't see how having an official state fossil is any different.

    I have to agree.

    1) A state fossil? Really. This just goes to show that state legislatures are doing too much.

    2) Using such foolishness to infuse religion into the state code is dumb.

    3) However, doing so, is not an establishment of a state religion.
