Some people have a deep seated need to feel superior. If they are not superior, they will belittle others so they appear to be inferior. It has been going on for thousands of years and will most likely continue until humanity evolves to something better or dies out due to mas stupidity. Given the current sampling of humanity, I think it will be the latter.
There is a whole class of people out there who make their livings by commenting on other people. That's somewhat pathological, and nice definitely does not sell. So we have all sorts of jabbering fools who have nothing better to do than make fun of someone else.
In large part, I agree. There does seem to be something pathological to it. Which goes to support my contention that the nature of man is not to respect others, and by extension the liberty of others. Which seems to be the fundamental flaw in Objectivism.
However, whenever there are positive stories, they usually get good response.
Respect must be earned, and current prevailing political philosophies have made "earned" a dirty word. People will respect others when they deserve respect, but in our current zoo, most people are looking for something for nothing and there is a gaggle of politicians who will promise it to them.
