Withdrawing the Sanction of the Victim

this is a hat tip to Let's Shrug. from the article: "Sengstacke found Biddle in a conference room, sitting at a table across which was spread copies of black newspapers that included The Defender, The Courier and The Afro-American. Biddle said that the black papers were flirting with sedition and threatened to “shut them all up.” Sengstacke responded that the papers were within their rights and that because they had urged African-Americans to support the war, they had an obligation to tell those readers about federal policies that showed contempt for them. He then added: “You have the power to close us down. So if you want to close us, go ahead and attempt it.”

Biddle was stunned. He must have seen that shutting down the papers would entail a public fight and perhaps even riots in the streets. His tone changed from hostile to solicitous when Sengstacke complained about being unable to reach federal officials with reporting questions. Doors that had been closed began to open. In 1944, Roosevelt, who had kept his distance since taking office, invited the Negro press barons to the White House and turned on that thousand-watt smile. Three days afterward, the first Negro press reporter started work in the White House press corps." Your friend, senor Roosevelt

    Nice post!

I will vote for anyone but Hillary. Nothing can be worse. At this point I hope Bloomberg runs, and pulls votes from her. I do not like Trump, but nothing is worse than that lying, cheating, oligarchian, big government, wench.

"In Atlas Shrugged the once self-righteous villains turn timid and solicitous "
I love the real-world example of this from the article.

I agree with this article and the point from AS that if you really are in dispute with someone, it's better for it to come to a head than to let it simmer. It's amazing how even people who appear to be a strong negotiating position will back down when things come to a head.

The conscious act of taking an apparently passive stance is indeed a response. However in the OP I would t classify the response as passive. Basically a gauntlet was thrown down - a challenge issued. That is certainly not passive.

A professor at Rutgers teaching Ayn Rand? OMG - what are the odds? Now that Rutgers is in the Big Ten - what will the U of Mich do? The blasphemy of teaching.

One more time the mind of Ayn Rand had seen through all of what the US government has done and continues to do. The unfortunate people who have continued to sanction themselves have grown in numbers; unfortunately.

I guess many of us have yet to withdraw our sanction from government and I sometimes wonder how the masses didn't see what was happening to Black Americans was specifically the results of the progressive movement. Their character suffered and the rest of us complained not realizing their predicament.

I Have discovered many Black American patriots prior to the 1800s that were just as amazing as our founders.

America was not and is not a "racist" nation and all this time, by not realizing what the liberal progressives had done, America sanctioned it.

Outstanding; both the article (more cool AR stuff) and the hat tip to LS.
