Republican Senator dumps on Trump

So, now the people inside the Beltway are telling us how to vote. I believe the electorate are fed up with the elites inside the beltway and that Trumps primary wins are the result of that dissatisfaction. I am not a Trump political fan and not saying I will vote for him but I am regarding the audacity of other politicians telling us what to do with our votes. To me that is why the standard US Citizen is upset with the political elites.

People inside the beltway always tell you how to vote, and if you don't follow directions they fix the results.
Sessions is naive or can't think rationally regarding Trump.
Sasse appears to understand the danger of electing Trump.

Trump will be the best thing that happened in USA politics in a long time. The trump haters out there are all over this forum, but they are letting their emotions get the best of them. He tells it like it is, which should be a good thing. But he is anti establishment, which scares a lot of people.

Anti establishment is fine. Manic monarchist is not.
trump "tells it" the way he thinks you want to hear it, just like almost all the political class.
Trump is the best thing to happen to the divine right of kings in ages.
Emotions getting the best of us?

We will c what happens. If the Trump haters win, we get Hillary and the economy crashes. Cruz cant stand up to Hillary- he would be crushed with his religious zealotry. Rubio is a lightweight new kid on the block and would never get elected.

Hillary is the one who tells it like her handlers tell her to. In addition, she is beholden to Goldman and wall street, seeing as though they gave her so much money.

How bad can Trump really be for 4 years? He would blast open a lot of cronyism and bring it to the light of day. He cant actually pass any laws that the congress doesnt bring to him. He would hire better advisors and amployees than any of the others would also.

How bad was Obama for only 4 years? Then it became 8. Trump is cronyism incarnate. Stop it? He embodies it.
Pres couldn't pass anything the con-gress didn't bring ? Ever heard of Obamacare?
Abandon the GOP. It's your only hope short of non-peaceful action.

Obamacare was passed when Obama had both houses of congress. They passed it and he signed it.

That was my point. You think the con-gress will oppose Trump's bad (statist, monarchist, anti-liberty, anti-free market) ideas? They didn't oppose O-racist; they won't oppose Trump either.
It's delusional to believe that Trump will be pro- liberty when his entire life he has been statist.

I think the totally repub congress will promote few really bad statist programs, giving Trump little room to approve such things. I think that they would repeal Obamacare, and probably argue ad infinitum about replacing it with something else (instead of just NOTHING)

A mixed congress will do nothing at all, and the president would have to do whatever he wanted with executive orders. Obamacare would stay in its current form.

A completely democratic congress will promote a LOT of statist things, and Trump would be likely to veto all of them. So, nothing would happen.

Trump wont do things to pay back his contributors, however, since he has none. Cruz or Rubio will have debts to pay to their contributors.

A GOP con-gress will push all the statist rubbish that Trump asks for. Repeal O-care? Not a snowball's chance in hell. The GOP in power would be the final nail in the coffin of liberty. Have you forgotten just how anti-liberty the Bush administration was?
Again, stop comparing Trump to other statist looters as if that will excuse him from valid criticism.

If, as you assume, there is a GOP con-gress who will act, as you assume, to block statist legislation from the POTUS, then why should I worry any more about a statist Dem than a monarchist GOP POTUS?
The reality is, it doesn't matter which leftist branch of the statist party sits in the oval office. If either wins we are screwed. Yet you and other persist in wearing rose colored glasses and ignore the consistent betrayal of the GOP for 50 years.
The only peaceful chance for free markets and liberty is for rational conservatives to leave the GOP and vote on the principles they claim to have, but are rarely if ever brave enough to defend. Even when the only action needed is to vote for principle, the so called conservatives fail.

I would be right behind you voting for real free market politicians. BUT, this election cycle, and perhaps for all future ones until there is a real collapse of the country, socialist and statist principles abound- meaning that in our mob (consensus) rule political system, a free market oriented politician will not get anywhere.
I agree with you that the GOP has abandoned the free market principles.
Trump will not let millions of undocumented workers to stay here and collect welfare. He will also stand up to other countries so they at least respect us. I really doubt that he will encourage inflation and the destruction of the dollar. Why wouldnt you want those things

To support the idea of individual liberty and free markets, I agree.
To actually get it during our lifetime, forget it until we get an economic crash to wake up the populace, OR some cataclysm occurs which will permit a completely new constitution with its flaws removed.

I am more interested in things that affect my life, which is why I want the least intrusive government I can get- and thats Trump this time

I watched the documentary of Trumps 757 on youTube. It really gives the flavor of how he might run our government- attention to detail and insistence on performance and letting America be great. Trump gets the best people to work for him, and requires performance or you know what- you're fired. We need that for 4 years in our government. He's got my vote for what thats worth

Trump has the highest negative poll ratings ever and is causing a record-breaking revolt even within his own party. Whether or not he is worse than Cackles depends on who is in the way of what government policies.

well, I will vote for him whenever I can this cycle as the only one who can beat her. Cruz or Rubio cant stand up to her in a debate let alone an election. If Trump doesnt win, I think our country is pretty much doomed to a quick decline.

There are a a lot of Trump haters out there who are into the establishment. The rank and file love him BECAUSE he is not in the establishment. Look where the so called establishment got us though....

Trump was saying again last night the he was going to build 1000 miles of "the wall". He was also lamenting the overseas competition faced by heavy equipment manufacturer, Caterpillar. He followed that with "I love Caterpillar", and that he loved John Deere.

Hmm...I wonder how many pieces of heavy equipment will be needed to build that wall?

Trump will quietly hand out 'favors', at his discretion. He's been a crony statist for a long time. He knows when he leaves office his brand and companies will have grown immensely because of the Presidency.

I dont think he really cares about building an empire any more. He is not going to last long enough for that. He has kids and has groomed THEM to take over his business. I think he has gotten all the power he is really interested in working to get. Political life wont be really good for him. There are so many haters out there, it will get very old being pounded on all the time for railing against the establishment.

Perhaps I am thinking that his business background, the way he stands up to political correctness, and his statements about foreign relations are better than the pure evil that comes out of the mouth of hillary or sanders.

Your justification for Trump is based on your trust that the master salesman is telling you the truth. He wants people that put so much blind faith in his words and ignore his actions.

What's next for some Trump's supporters? Hats, buttons, jackets...boots? Will they initiate force against those that are critical of Trump?

Principled people who oppose Trump for his unprincipled "pragmatist" statism are not characterized as "Trump haters".

Cruz religious zealotry is no worse than Trump waving his Bible over his heard. Trump is at least as likely to impose religious demands in government as he buys support for some "deal".

The emotional fervor for the strong arm Trump, promising His "greatness" and dismissing the threats, is just as frightening as Trump.

Let's talk in terms of a posibble Presidential contender. I don't belive half of what Rubio is saying about Trump and neither does he. There is a deal having been made that accounts for Rubio's vituperative attacks on Trump which is a 180 degree turnabout for him. I don't believe Trump is a con man or an America hater ala Obama. He is pretty much what you see is what you get, and that's enough to off-put many folks, most especially establishment GOP persons.

Trump's support is that he IS an outsider and will blow apart the standard ways of doing things in washinton. He tells the truth and speaks his mind, which we all SHOULD do. He also says what we are thinking in many ways. And he is politically incorrect, which we ALL need. He has my vote. The others are either standard politicians or really evil people like Hildebeast and Sanders.

Someone downvoted THAT?? Someone here would actually vote for the Proscribed Prosecutable Pant-suited Princess of Pander and Pull-Peddling?
Meaning they would rather see Frau Felony over someone who does NOT have a record of lying (or evading) under oath to Congress, Voting for a self-entitled smarmy imperialist who decides the rules everyone else follows don't apply to her, and who is using as her main qualifications being wife of a former president (who was one of 2 impeached, I might add) and being Secretary of State during a horrible misjudgment of situational awareness... Not to mention SHE was the ORIGINAL AUTHOR of the insurance scam and tax-graft plan currently known as Obamacare...

YOU would vote for her? SERIOUSLY??

Has this group fallen THAT low?? I've been here since nearly the beginning, but at that I am now thinking of shrugging this. Because if that's the current opinion - that Hillary is somehow qualified to even RUN, let alone deserving of votes - over ANYONE - then this place is no longer the gulch, but the State Science Institute...

I saw a YouTube video last night entitled something like Trump 757 documentary or something like that. Very instructive as to the level of detail Trump puts into things. If he attended to things with that level of perfection when President, it would be a GREAT think for our country

funny. Its not the gold plating thats important. The reason i brought it up was his attention to detail actually, which I have to give him credit for. If he asked for the same level of attention to our problems in the country, it can't be bad. All he could do is inspire people to be great. He cant make the country great all by himself by any means. I dont have rose colored glasses on that.

Suspect he just said, "make it so gaudy that everyone on board will be envious" and the interior decorator put his finger down his throat, ignored good taste and took a sizeable fee. That's what a Trump presidency will entail, lots of expenses to cover up that Trump has no clue.

I am beginning to think you are just being a Trump hater for some sort of hidden agenda. He built up a big business from essentially nothing. The other candidates have done NOTHING except use government to get rich and stand in the way of the producers. He obviously hires very talented people, and is a stickler for detail (both skills are essential for a presidential candidate). He commands respect which is essential for foreign relations (look at how far Obama gets with Putin), and it is very hard to understand how he could be worse than the electable alternatives. I know you are a purist, and thats OK, but before your purist gets elected, we will all be dead and buried for a long time. You would get your purist elected sooner if you voted for Sanders so we get the apocalypse faster and get it over with

He built a business from essentially nothing. FALSE
He had pull, millions from his relatives, and looted using government favors.
Again, you keep comparing Trump to other looters in a failed attempt to defend him. Compare him to the one you should be voting for instead, Gary Johnson.
Trump a stickler for details? Based on what evidence?
Commands respect? No, he demands unearned respect and insults anyone who doesn't agree with him regardless of how stupid his arguments are.
Purist? I want someone who defends the constitution as the oath the POTUS takes requires. I want someone who takes his own promises seriously, and will fulfill them. I want someone with ethics that opposes statism in actions, not just words. Trump fails on all these simple ethical requirements.
The reason we get evil looters is people don't vote on principle; they vote based on fear instilled by the GOP. I argue that we should vote on principle or we are at fault. You on the other hand won't vote on principle because other people won't. Do you have any principles?

I agree with you in wanting a purist- someone who defends personal liberty (our consititution doesnt do a perfect job of promoting liberty at this point). Ethics is great and if Gary Johnson has a snowball's chance of being elected, I would vote for him. But he doesnt stand ANY chance of being elected this year.

Given that we dont have unlimited lives, it would seem prudent to try and make the best of what we actually CAN get. Voting on principle in today's culture is useless because the only way we would be able to get a principled person to win would be to convince multi multi multi millions of people to understand those principles and agree with them. You are trying to stand in the way of the tide coming in instead of waiting for the right moment to make your stand. Education at this point is the only thing to do that will accomplish anything, and there is a good argument that only an apocalypse will convince the required mass of humanity that statism isnt the way to go. Doesnt this make any sense to you??

Voting for evil makes no sense at all.
Voting based on principle is the thing that makes it possible for the people with ethics and principle to compete in elections. You admit that without support they can't win, and you refuse to support them because they can't win, Not rational. You will support someone without principles because he runs his mouth on problems but he has no detailed solutions, he claims politicians are not trustworthy, tells you that he should be trusted when he has a proven record of looting from the people. You are not thinking rationally.

You still are responsible for the consequences of your decisions. If Candidate A is, in your opinion, level 5 evil and Candidate B is level 8 evil and Candidate C is good but polling at 3%, selecting C may send a message but does make it likelier that B wins with his level 8 evilness.

Yes, it's possible for candidate C to win but the most likely scenario is that in the run up to the election people tell pollsters that C is their choice and C is no longer polling at 3%. When C goes into the actual election with a realistic shot -- vote as often as your conscience allows.

You bring up some good points, particularly that if everyone didnt vote for a freedom loving candidate because they "couldnt win", they would NEVER win. kind of sounds like a self fulfilling prophecy..
Isnt it also true though that an election like this to head up a currently statist country with so few principles would make it impossible for a principled person to actually operate within his principles. Remember Thompson asked John Galt to take over, and Galt refused to be "king".

This would be an argument to just withdraw from the whole thing, and just not vote at all if one was true to one's principles. Our constitution and laws are not principled at all at this point.

Sasse was not establishment. He is now. The "third party" ploy spoken of more and more has nothing to do with electing a GOP candidate. It is intended, if it happens, to fragment the GOP and elect the Hildebeast.

They want to make sure the ones who will keep the vanilla status quo dual-dubbed monoparty. The media want candidates (and eventually, a CiC) that will generate news stories (which is why Hellary is their darling), regardless of (or especially if) they do a lackadaisical, or better, deplorable job... or even better (for them) make the nation a shithole fill of news stories to boost their revenue.

Otherwise we would have a Rand Paul VS Bernie Sanders Primary - both qualified from their own sides, both very dedicated to their specific agenda, but far far too bland and businesslike to be a media sensation, so they get the axe...

HOW do you think we ended up with the criminal bimbo VS the loud, non-PC hairpiece? The networks are drooling all over themselves... because THEY win.

Rubio has completely come unhinged, he said the word 'con man' something like 50 times in a 5 minute rant on Fox News last night.

So who is the Con Man? The guy that builds high rises, employing thousands of people and selling high quality condos to people that can afford them? Or the first-term Senator that has been on the campaign trail for at least a year, not representing his constituents, and fleecing the taxpayers for his salary the whole time?

I'm voting for the last man standing. Call it what you may, I'm tired of career politicians and want anybody but a career politician to shake things up and remind the good old boys we the people don't want you to get too comfortable for too long. Every time I see a super pack ad with negative comments of desperation, it makes me incline in the opposite direction of their intention of the ad. So for the Repubs- last man standing. For the Dems- not an option. Both choices are unacceptable between a socialist/communist who has done nothing but whine about America and the coronation of life long career politician with tons of baggage who believes it's her turn to wear the crown.

I don't want anyone to tell me what to do either but the article presented multiple views, the essence being that what these people will say to get elected does not reflect on what they will do once in office. This is the core of the problem to me. I would rather select a candidate based on their fundamental beliefs and not any specifics of what they say they will do. First, not being privy to all the information, they are dealing with "facts" that are public but not necessarily true or complete. Second, they are supposed to sell their ideas to other governmental branches for approval, budgeting and a ruling on the lawfulness of the acts in accordance with our national principles. Their pronouncements of what THEY will do implies they will have absolute control and some even believe they have it.
Our founders devised a system based on separation of powers which has been eroded to a scary degree. States rights are almost non-existent. Congress is vilified and bypassed. The Supreme Court stands alone but is in danger of being turned to the left. One conservative justice is to be replaced now and in the next few years there will be three liberal justices to be replaced so a huge swing can occur based on the principles of the next President. I have no idea what Trump would do but I have a good idea on Clinton and total assuredness on Sanders' leanings.
My first Presidential vote (had to be 21) was for Barry Goldwater and he was the last candidate I was really "for". I was surprised by Reagan, disappointed by George H W Bush and have hardly been able to live with the rest. Now, I don't know if I even want to vote, even to vote against the other. If a serious challenge could be mounted by a third party candidate and cause the election to be decided in the house of Representatives could be our best bet.

The good thing about Trump is that he tells it like it is, he is not politically correct, he actually has run successful businesses (none of the others have), and knows how to hire good people who know what they are doing (unlike Obama who just looks at the skin color and hires based on that). What else do we really want in an administrator, which is what the president is. He doesnt write the laws, and can only veto what the congress passes. And he can inspire us all to be ourselves, which he does. He has my vote.

I think he thinks we are all stupid and we probably are. He has said not to worry about the "candidate Donald" because he will be a different "nominee Donald" and even a different "President Donald". In other words, he tells it like it is even when it isn't. He has all the character traits of being a tyrant but if Congress and The Supreme Court does their jobs, we can survive, and maybe even thrive with a leader like that. The trouble is that checks and balances have not worked too well lately because of cronyism.

Well, at least he doesnt take campaign contributions like Hildebeast. I worry when Goldman gives her so much money. They expect a LOT back, and it would be at our expense.

Tyrants dont often build big and successful businesses, though. Trump has had to rely on cooperation and picking good people to work with. Thats what we need as an administrator to run the government.

Wow, Big Trump haters are showing their teeth. I really don't see how Trump is any different than Romney. Romney managed a hedge fund basically. He bought and sold companies, closed them down when he thought they should. Trump built businesses and sold them when they no longer fit his mantra. Yes, he used government to get what he wanted, so did Romney and most other politicians. Most politicians use government to vastly increase their wealth while in Dirty City. So how is Trump any different than what we have in anybody else? I am sorry but I feel that the arguments against Trump can be used on any other politician and the difference in most people's eyes are that Trump is not status quo, he is not a political creature like Hill or Sanders or Rubio or Christie or any other candidate, yes, even Kasich. So, bash Trump if you want but what he says resonates with the populace.

I know the progressive (Stalin/marx/communist) intrusion into the American government well, however...if they'd done the job we elected them for...we would not be in this position.

The very Last thing you wanta do...is tell me! what to do.
    I have a mind...they do not...it would seem.

I read through the comments as I got somewhere around 32 messages that a comment was left. It seems as if we have Trump sympathizers and Trump haters among us. Like I said I am not either of those options but it seems as if the GOP is committing suicide and fracturing itself. You have one Senator (Sasse) saying don't do it and another (Sessions) backing him. As far as I am concerned, he cannot be any worse than what we have had to deal with the last 7 years and still have to deal with until January 20th or what we would have with the Socialist or the criminal on the Democrapic side (Yes, that p was put there on purpose). I had to deal with the Clinton clan when I was at the Pentagon in the early 90's and they do not deserve another day in the White House.

It almost goes without saying that the "big house" would be more appropriate for the Clintons.

The reason a power collector like Trump would be worse has to do with the political pandering of Congress trying to hitch a ride on his bandwagon. That, and the fear of crossing someone who has demonstrated there isn't much he wouldn't publicly do to them.

Add in the trait of a 'thin skin' and it's a recipe for a dictator. What does it say about a man that has to constantly proclaim what groups "love" him?

two types the ones in charge are republicans in name only and are holding the party in place as he right wing of the left. A very few are more traditional. one has to leave left wing definitions behind. and use a more useful way of defining the picture.

      left is government over citizens
center is constitution not center of the left
right filling the empt space is citizens over government

nazis are intentionally put out of place and belong next to communists

      entiende?

"But if the Republican Party becomes the party of David Duke and Donald Trump, I'm out, and I think lots and lots and lots of people are out." --Sen. Ben Sasse
I wonder if lots and lots of Republicans plus some Democrats could equal a majority. I think so.

Trump is an illustration of the New Fascism Rule by Consensus lecture posted here last week.
    https://ari.aynrand.org/issues/govern...
People see Trump and say "Goodness he sounds fascist. He scares the bejesus out me. We need a good moderate who will look out for to all groups' views." I say illustration because if limited gov't and respect for individual rights had strong structures enforcing them, Trump wouldn't be so scary. We wouldn't feel the desperate need for someone who represents everyone's interests. It would be understood that people represent their own interests, and the president just runs the executive branch.

My thought is Trump cannot win. The question is what alternative to people run to. The obvious choice is Hillary Clinton, who I believe is a good person and "good moderate who will look out for all groups' views." But imagine if there were another viable choice, if a bunch of mainstream politicians supported Gary Johnson. It's still an extreme longshot, but a libertarian movement is a possibility.

Hillary is a lying, manipulative, and evil person. She is a chameleon who changes her tune in response to the weathervane of political life. SHE is the representative of the new fascism, not Trump. How people could vote for that woman is beyond me. She is the same as Sanders in philosophy, but at least HE is honest. She is a liar.

I hate to say this, but that's true. Sanders may be a neo-liberal socialist, but he's not lying about being a neo-liberal socialist. As sad as it seems, if he won at least if he said something you could take it to the (failed and state-controlled) bank...

What I really REALLY don't get is how the hell Hellary can take state after state - some at over 75% of the vote. I was watching the brouhaha last night, and screaming at the TV "Are these f***ing democrats blind and dumb and stupid? WTF is wrong with you for voting a known criminal, someone who is known to lie back to back, who puts on fake accents to sound like she's from somewhere, and cal legalese her way out of the crimes she has committed??!! Is your memory THAT bad you can't remember she crap she pulled when her husband was in the WH? ARRGHHHH!!!!!"

Ya know... Ayn was right. The moochers, looters, liberals, etc. hate themselves so bad they want to drag the rest of the world down in flames with them...

Its incredible. I noticed that she was adopting Sander's lines last night (seeing as though they are really the same). Her handlers are smart, and they just give her the lines to spout. As to the 75% wins, those are the blacks who just loved Obama and she tells them she will continue the Obama legacy. I think this might be the last real election, and I am voting for Trump this time. He tells it like it is at least, and isnt part of the establishment that takes campaign moneys from Goldman (like Hillary). He actually has to be good at hiring people to be successful in business (unlike the other GOP people who never hired anyone that had to produce). We need an administrator as president for a change, not some sort of king that promises what they cant deliver. If Trump just gets government out of the way, WE can make USA great again. Government cant do that at all.

What do the Hillary supporters think Goldman is giving her $200k per speech for? They must expect favors at our expense.
