Funny, The IRS, HillaryGate, and now FlintGate, and the Democraps run the same plays over and over again. I am sure there has been an email burning session as well as a hard drive scrubbing as well. Seems they are playing the part AR described for them 50 years ago....

Can anyone shed any light as to why the federal government is involved in this at all? Seems to be a local issue.

Is this another way for the federal government to show its superiority over the states?

Ed, I believe their justification is the extent of the issue has been mis-reported and the number of people effected is much larger than the locals would admit too. You are correct that the issue was purely local, but the malfeasance involved is beginning to take on criminal proportions. Also the EPA got involved way too late when they supposedly have oversight of water systems. Another case of too late, too little from the government. It doesn't seem to matter whether it is local or federal when trying to kill off incompetent government, Flint started as small incompetency, and grew to big incompetency. My suspicion is they will find it all goes back to typical corrupt politics and deal making in the end.

I come at it from the angle that the EPA should not exist so it should not be involved. But since it does exist, fine they should testify at the federal level or be fired. The local person should be fired and someone else put in place to solve the problem, instantly. There has to be a local solution to this problem.

I strongly believe many of our countries problems stem from people looking to government for solutions instead of taking care of issues themselves. This is truly why I don't believe the feds should be in this at all.
