Rand was born Feb. 2, 1905. Today would be her 111th birthday.

"Integrity is the recognition of the fact that you cannot fake your consciousness, just as honesty is the recognition of the fact that you cannot fake existence—that man is an indivisible entity, an integrated unit of two attributes: of matter and consciousness, and that he may permit no breach between body and mind, between action and thought, between his life and his convictions—that, like a judge impervious to public opinion, he may not sacrifice his convictions to the wishes of others, be it the whole of mankind shouting pleas or threats against him—that courage and confidence are practical necessities, that courage is the practical form of being true to existence, of being true to truth, and confidence is the practical form of being true to one’s own consciousness." Galt's Speech

Use this post to share quotesfrom any of her amazing body of work :) Happy Randsday!

That was all I was trying to do.

I called and asked Obama to spell potato.
All he said without a teleprompter was, "Uh, um, ye-yes I-I-I-I cuh-can spu=-pu-spell, uh, po-po-pota, uh, toe. (That last syllable is phonetic since he was only talking. I should have used email).
Then he added, "Uh, you, er, um, t-t-t-take me off your cuh-cuh-call list. Uh, I'm not buh-buh-buying any of-of on the-the-the-the phone.

I can just see puffed up officials and educators of a PC indoctrinated future making a big to do over Aug. 4 (yes, I just looked it up) being a most special day when the first black president brought so much hope and change to the People's Collective.
This would also be a wonderful day for creative writers.

One of my all-time favorites is: "The difference between a welfare state and a totalitarian state is a matter of time."

Although, I would very much like to see Ayn Rand's birthday become a national holiday, it probably isn't going to happen. There is a very good chance that Obama's birthday will have that honor. But I am glad that you won't be holding your breath. We in the Gulch would miss you.

Good. Then you won't hold your breath until Ayn Rand's birthday becomes a national holiday.
